Solar Generators
We built a highly energy efficient house in Montana. We have photovoltaic panels on the roof that generate electricity and 4 solar hot water panels. The water goes into a large holding tank and from there through an electric water heater, which turns on automatically when the water temperature drops below 120F. The systems paid off in about 7 years. Our monthly electric bill is $4.20; the connecting charge to Northwestern Energy's net. The only downside is the fact that Northwestern doesn't pay us for the electricity we put back into their system and they sell to their customers.
