Guerrero's health officials report there are currently 15 confirmed active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, NO cases in La Unión, 1 in Petatlán, NO cases in Técpan, 49 in Acapulco, and 205 in the entire state.

I hope folks are taking precautions for the weather event expected this Monday.

Another day with lots of turtle tracks on the beach, but apparently no one is sure if the eggs are being stolen or not. My wife or I usually hear when the Bomberos/Protección Civil park in front to check the beach, but except for seeing them early the night before last, we haven't seen them and neither have any neighbors or friends who are out early that we've spoken with. I would love to learn that I'm wrong and that they're being recovered.

I know I'm hard-headed and opinionated on many matters, especially when it comes to trying to help Zihuatanejo remain an attractive place not just for visitors with some money to spend but also for those of us who live here. I've seen too many tourist destinations lose their identity trying to cater to whimsical tourists, usually by politicians seeking the payouts that come with granting all kinds of permits. Our downtown problem with noisy bars is one such example. Protecting Playa Manzanillo from rape and pillage and privatization is another. Somewhere in the Message Board Archives are comments by me warning of what would happen to us if we follow the Disneyland route, and lo and behold here is exactly where we are, with all the negative effects I foresaw. Also, many times the newspapers have covered the things you folks complain and worry about, only to be consistently ignored by the local municipal government. Soon I'm going to start posting those old articles so that our so-called authorities and others can connect the dots of what went wrong that they didn't attend to that caused us to lose the tourists and visitors our community needs to prosper and be sustainable. Apparently none of them have a clue what they're doing and why we aren't as prosperous as we used to be. It's time we fight for what we need!

Look who's back open! Quinta Camelinas! This beautiful and quite comfortable small boutique hotel on a peaceful residential street in Colonia Darío Galeana on the edge of downtown Zihuatanejo within easy walking distance of La Madera Beach and Playa La Ropa as well as the restaurants and shops of the downtown area. They also have a delicious bakery. ;-)

Originally Zihuatanejo's Palacio Federal, this historical old building now houses the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande. This is where the old Oficina de Correos, Oficina de Telégrafos, and Oficina de Migración were along with other federal offices. My wife grew up hanging out here because her father was the telegraph operator.
