Incident Outside of the Airport

I took my son to the airport to rebook his weather related cancelled flight back to the states. We decided to walk out of the airport and catch a cab back to our condo. I waited outside of the tienda while he went inside to purchase something to drink. While I'm waiting, I notice several tents along side of the building occupied by 4 men and 4 vehicles. I also noticed a police vehicle in the back of the same parking lot. As I was standing at the side of the road, a cab came by and, assuming correctly that I needed a ride back to town, signaled me to cross the road and wait there. I signaled back "OK." After my son and I crossed the road, one of the men from the tent walked over to us and asked us if we needed a ride. I said no, that I had already made arrangements for a taxi. He told us that we wouldn't be able to do that. Just then the taxi arrived. The driver and the other man got into a brief but heated discussion. Not wanting to get in the middle of a nasty situation, I told the taxi driver that we were going to go with the other man. The taxi driver wasn't happy and sped off. On the way to the car in the parking area the man tells us that it's illegal for a taxi to pick us up there and take us back to town. He then pointed to the police car in the lot and tells us it's a 500 pesos fine for the taxis if they get caught doing so. The implications were quite clear. We got into the car for the ride back. I immediately notice that the cars were all vehicles operated by "Terrestre". So,apparently Terrestre is going to cause problems for all of us who try to use this "alternative" method of returning to Zihua and evidently have the support of the police in doing so.
