La Guerra de Taxi

It's hardly a local issue to be denied the freedom of choosing the mode of transportation you prefer. It's called robbery in every tourist resort area that I've ever lived .

With respect, after much preparation, expense, and a full day's continental travel not all of us are keen to play consumer advocate the moment we land in a different country, with another culture, language, customs.

Every airport that I've ever been through has had some kind of payoff scheme for local ground transportation. I suppose one could rationalize that that is also a contribution to the economy of running a civic airport. Here the $$ money goes into an airport operation/expansion fund, in Z. perhaps too, with no doubt pieces skimmed off here or there.

It's a vulnerable moment to be sure, and I'd rather pay the bit more than have hassles in my face that I could otherwise avoid, moments after landing.
