Troncones Advice

I know you said you do not want to rent a car, but if you're "on your own" to get up to Troncones/Dos Palmas I think a rental car is a good way to go. If someone in your party is comfortable with the driving option I'd put them in charge of the rental/driving and let them be your taxi driver. It's easy to reserve and pick up a car at the Zihuatanejo airport. To me renting and driving a car takes less brain power than getting cabs from the airport to the grocery store, baby sitting luggage at the grocery store, getting another cab to Troncones, getting cabs for the rest of the trip etc. It's kind of a personal thing I guess, whatever fits your personal travel style.
