Rental cars
Haven't read the article but these should helP:
1. When you check out the car go over it with a fine tooth comb and take close up pictures to establish the condtion.
2. Make sure spare tire and jack/tools are in the truck.
3. Note condition of tires and wheel covers (damaged, missing)
4. Be especially alert for even a hint of rock chip.
5. Note and take pciture of alighment of doors, trunk and hood. Sometimes the care has been damageed and then fixed with shoddy repair.
6. Find a scratch (or dent or other damage) on every door and panel and hodd and trunk lid and makr it on the check out sheet.
By and large the companies are OK but I have had every one of the items listed above used against me over the years in U.S. and Mexico.
IMPORTANT: If the car company (or any other comany) makes charges on your card that you think unfair FILE A DISPUTE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Your card company will give you immediate credit and then it is up to the offender to prove his case. They must follow very, very strict procedures to substaniate their claim and the seldom do it right and your dispute will stand in your favor!
