Hi.....bringing my Airedale, Martini with me and having a difficult time getting an idea of the quality of dog food there. Been to Sams and the big Market and some vets on my last trip before the move but did not see any dog food with which I was familiar. Any insights?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hola
We have brought our dog with us for the last 6 years. He is an old (15yr) maltipoo. Tried all the Pedigree and similar type brands. They all were lacking in quality and our dog got hives etc from them. Finally found Royal Canin. It isn't cheap, but our dog doesn't react adversely to it. It has several types (for old dogs, pups, big, large breed etc). We get it at Dr. Campo's shop in centro on Calle Ejido.

Dr Jose Islas carries good quality food in Ixtapa. Royal canin is one that he carries also.

We have three Westies. Two eat Royal Canin Gastrointestinal and the third eats Royal Canin Renal Support. Each can costs 55 pesos and reasonable prices on the bags of crunchy food.

Our Vet is Salvador Sanchez @ "Huellas" on Morelos #14 near Cinco de Mayo in Zihua. If he doesn't have the specific kind you need, he can order it and 2-3 days later, he's got it. Tel. 755-125-7118; cell 755-115-6489. He also does home visits - we live in Ixtapa.

Hi all and thanks so much for your response. I think the problem (no quality dog foods) has been resolved. I just found out that Amazon is now open in Mexico. Took me a while to find out how to get the site translated (any recommendations for Spanish schools!!??). Open Amazom.com.mx when it opens right click on the page and you will see "translate in English". Dog food galore!

I go to Spanish Plus in Zihua. The school is closed for vacation and will open again the second week in August.

Hi, we will be arriving dec 1st for 2 months with our 2 small dogs. How did you fare finding decent dog food? Did you try the royal canin and is there a reliable supply?
We will be staying in the colonia la madera.

Thanks in advance

How about starting a new, current thread, and activating the envelope next to your name for personal responses? Thanks

Hola
Amazing how such a simple topic about dog food can get so f-ed up. Back to the topic.
We always bring down as much dog food as we can put in our luggage. Never had a problem. We are in Zihua for 5 to 6 months. If you are only coming down for 2 months with 2 small dogs, you might be able to bring down enough food to last you. If not, any of the vet stores in town have good quality food, at a price, but it is worth the cost if you love your dogs. Don't even bother with Commercial. Cheap shit food.

Thanks for alerting us that our chihuahua eats "cheap shit food". I guess all of us Mexicans do. We can't all be as particular or as fussy as our northern neighbors.
