No doubt there is a "bad attitude" against Trump by many local folks here. In my opinion fueled by the media. I can't begin to tell you the number of totally ludicrous "facts" I heard quoted everyday about how Trump it against the Mexicans.

Very similar to the media coverage of NOB tourists coming to Mexican into the pit of narco crime and danger.

At least Gringoes can still get a visa to come down here. It is virtually impossible for a Mexican to get a visa to visit the U.S.

Can't really blame them. I'd be curious to know the trend of Gringo visits to Mexico. Zihua has certainly taken quite a hit, judging by the decreasing number of foreign yachts in the bay.

Used to be a lot of Gringoes and very few Mexicans here in La Barra de Potosi. The numbers have reversed and now there are many, many more Mexicans than Gringoes.

How much of that do you attribute to the way I/Z have been "marketed" ??

Seems that the All Inclusive hotels in Ixtapa are packed to the gills during the season with both Nationals and Gringos.

Purely conjecture on my part----

Easter week is probably not representative of the entire year.

Of course there is some overlapping but generally I don't think the AI customer, especially during Santa Semana, is the same as the La Barra de Potosi customer.

Just an opinion, not even an expert one.

My GF works at Azul. They are not anymore busy than other hotels/condos etc.. and there are fewer Americans and Canadians and more Mexicans than in the past. The problem isn't the way I/Z is marketed it's the lack of marketing.

Think about this:
When was you saw anything advertising I/Z on U.. TV?
When was the last time you saw an ad for airline tickets/hotel, all in one package?
When was the last time you saw an ad fro, say, Sandals?

Word of mouth is the only thing I/Z has going for it and simply put, "That ain't gonna hack it this day and age".

Exactly. The potential return for the area is huge if the gov. would just put together a decent marketing package. Is there someone in local gov. to liaise with the hotels, airlines, cruise ship companies? There are very few tourists that visit from the East Coast where the vast majority of the US population is. A decent marketing campaign focused on developing tourism from D.C-Boston partnered with an airline (not many direct flights or even 1 stop flights from there) would kick ass. Every year the tourists I see get older and older. I do not see many young people here. More in Ixtapa than here but still less.

PV has increasing numbers .
Riviera Maya has increasing numbers
The negative info about Guerrero is having a impact. However the info is true so the shift is warranted.

I thought you were telling me to go back to Mexico. I'm back in Canada had a great 5 week trip from Z to Morelia, San Miguel, PV, Mazatlan, Copper Canyon and Chihuahua and lots of spots in between and now you want me to go back. Well it is Spring here and no I can't go back just now but thanks for the invitation. ;-)

Some friends and acquaintances just don't understand what a great place Mexico is to travel, the impressions based on media rhetoric.

I just read the story. While this guy MAY not be visiting the US because of the climate there. It is more likely that the drop in Mexican tourists visiting the US has more to do with the strength of the dollar vs the peso than anything else. The gentleman quoted even talks about shopping in the article. The LA times twists it to drive the point of the US businesses losing the $1000 a day he would spend but in reality someone that can afford these vacations would realize that their $ goes a lot further somewhere else. A bit of wag the dog here, IMHO.

I have a daughter and two grandkids that live in San Diego, and because of that I still need to go sometimes. I used to own two houses there. Just sold one in Carlsbad, because of the negativity. Well that and a heathy capital gain since 2012. I still own one in Sqauremont. I used to stay about 6 or seven times a year, but have decide to rent it. I plan to try and only go once a year for the girls birthdays. Maybe when a nice guy operates the country, I will go back again more often. Till then the kids can visit me in Canada or Mexico. I bet I am not alone in this. in November and January I read lots of Canadians felt the same way in the Globe and Mail. As i get older I have less patience for mean and vindictive people.
