Mexican phone number

Hello all.

I have recently moved to Zihuatanejo and will be here for the foreseeable future. I have T-mobile cell service which allows me to use my cell phone as if I am in the United states. I am very happy with the service as I continue to make quite a few phone calls to people in the U.S. both for personal and business reasons. The one thing that I haven't quite figured out is how to get a phone number that local people can use to call me. I understand that quite a few people have "Whatsapp" and I have that as well and have used that to communicate with local cell phones when possible. I continue to struggle with the best way to communicate with local phone numbers particularly with local businesses that I am trying to communicate with. I can call them just fine but it is difficult for them to call me back. Ideally I would like a solution that allows both a mexican number and my current U.S. number to come in on my current cell phone but don't know if that is possible. I wonder if others on this forum might be willing to share how they navigate this particular issue.

Best Regards,
Humberto

¡Bienvenido a la vecindad!

My recommendation is to ditch the t-Mobile account and go with Telcel. They offer unlimited calling to Mexico, the USA and Canada for around $200 a month. If you need internet add another hundred pesos per GB.

Caveat: If someone calls you outside Mexico they will pay the International Rage which is a little pricey. Most folks tell their friends to text message or email if they want you to call them back.

Note" Rob always talks in MX pesos, not U.S dollars (re $100).

Get the Telcel Amigo Sin Limite as above but get a skype US phone number for $14.23USD for 3 months and when people call your US number you can have it forward to your Mexican cell. We do business here this way.

and if you have a t mobile plan you can't vacate, "If you pay for Skype credit, you can call out from Skype on your computer to normal phones (wireless or landline) at a discounted rate. Also, for an additional cost, you may get a “Skype-In” phone number, which is essentially a Skype number disguised as a local land line, so that all calls to that number will be forwarded to your Skype account, allowing you to take the call anywhere and on any computer with Skype installed. This benefits the caller — if Skype is not available, he/she can always contact you simply by dialing a local number."

Hola
When we are here we use TelMex. We don't have a tv so we use TelMex for internet service. The cost is 350 pesos a month. For an extra 30 pesos we get unlimited no cost phone service to anywhere in North America. Its a land line though. One problem is that our phone number is garbled at the other end. Have to make sure to tell our friends our phone number.
