Volaris Airlines

In planning our Zihuatanejo trip for late November into December, I learned that Volaris is offering non-stop service between Chicago O'Hare and Zihuatanejo. From what I can determine, the flight operates only on Sunday. I wondered if any posters have used Volaris and can comment on on how you liked flying with them.

I found the Volaris website very tedious to navigate. And apparently, although they offer a very nice base price base price for their flights, they add on for things like seat selection and their complicated baggage policies/pricing also suggests additional costs. They have a membership system that figures into pricing and may or may not be cost effective, hard to tell.

Expedia offers a discounted Volaris fare which I assume is bare bones with no ups and extras.

Appreciate any observations or feedback people might have. Either on navigating the Volaris system or on using Expedia to book Volaris.

Haven't flown with them and won't since if the plane doesn't say Alaska on it you're not likely to find me in it, but here are links to folks who have.

I flew Volaris last month from ZIH to MEX. It was a last minute trip, and I bought ticket at the airport. Plane was ok, service wa ok, price was cheap, flight was delayed 15 minutes (vs Aeromexico almost an hour, which was my other option). They charge you for everything: carry-on, water, coffee...

I read, though, that Mexican authorities are now looking into charging for carry-ons. Not sure where that will end.

Good luck.

I fly on Volaris about every two months from Los Cabos to Tijuana. Never had a problem with them. They do some add ons, but it's not that bad. They are more pleasant than most of the U.S. airlines.

There is the other discount Mexican air lines that does a Red Eye out of O'Hare on Saturdays- I saw the name on the Board. Their prices were a lot better than United. The only draw back was the long lay over in Mexico City.

Interjet? They fly most days and the price is marvelous. But that layover is a deal breaker -9+ hours. Especially after an overnight flight. Can't do it.

If it isn't Interjet, let me know.

When we flew Mexicana years ago before they went under(we lost 1 set of booked r/t tickets and enough air miles for 2 more sets of r/t tickets) we would do the Red Eye and be on the first flight to "Z". What was nice is we would check into our hotel, have lunch and be on the beach by noon. Do we ever miss Mexicana from Chicago. Good food with real silverware. We would be a sleep right after taking off. We would be waken up to have a snack and fill out our paper work. There was a 3 to 4 hour layover. Always had enough time to have a nice breakfast or just coffee and rolls before boarding. Of course we would have to have that early morning beer on the flight to "Z". What away to start our vacation.

We flew with them out of Chicago in March. I think it is only thru Apple Vacations you can book with them on the Zih flight. Flights good both ways, no frills plane. Did not have much to eat so take your own. $20 for checked bag. We got 7nights at Hotel Irma with breakfast, transfers and flight for $539 + baggage. The flight along thru Apple could be booked 2 or 3 weeks out for about $400 as I recall. Would use them again for sure.

You can now book Volaris directly through their website or through booking services like Expedia.
