Does anyone on the board have experience with having solar panels installed on their building here in Zihuatanejo? If so, who did you use? Would you do it again? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Casa Sandbar recently did and we're piggybacking on his knowledge and experience and will have solar installed in the next couple of weeks. I'm quite excited about it.

Excellent! I would be very interested in hearing more details such as cost, who you are purchasing it from and having it installed by.Are you going off grid or using the grid as back up battery etc. I am very interested in doing this on a place I am going to build in zihuatanejo.

On our house here in Montana we have 4 panels that make hot water. It goes into a well-insulated holding tank and flows through an electric water heater, which turns on if the water temperature drops below 120 F. This provides hot water for general household use, as well as radiant floor heat. We also have 30 photovoltaic panels on the garage roof which produce more power than we need. Any excess goes back into the system. Since Northwestern Energy has our politicians in their pocket, we get nothing in return. We decided not to have batteries, since they are quite expensive and don't live very long. We have a back-up generator, but we've never used it, since outages have been infrequent and short. We are only billed $4.10 for the supply charge,

Casa Sandbar provided a day-bay-day accounting of their experience. You can read it by clicking on USERS in the upper left hand corner then searching for Casa Sandbar then clicking on their name and then clicking on POSTINGS. They even provided video on their Facebook page.

We were waiting to post a follow up on our solar until a CFE bill arrived. Our CFE billing is every 2 months.
There is an issue with 2 of our 15 micro-inverters which stopped working after a week. By the time Electrifica received manufacturer warranty replacement information and we could return the faulty equipment...we lost about 2 months (and counting) from 4 of our 30 panels. They should be here next week and re-installed by mid-June.

Thanks for the update Casa Sandbar. Do you mind me asking how much your installation cost?
