Using AT&T in Zihua and around Mexico?

by Z MadCity @, Madison Wisconsin, Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 17:49 (139 days ago)

We live in Zihua 5+ months a year, with visits up north to the Guadalajara area. Currently we have separate phones for USA and Mexico(telcel).

We would like to switch over to AT&T and use one phone in both countries. We would appreciate any feedback and comments from AT&T users in Zihua or the surrounding area.

How is the reception and reliability? Thanks very much.

My husband and I have no problem with Att in Mexico calling and receiving calls from the USA. Our plan includes calls to and from USA/ Mexico.

Same as Saillenyc, we have Mexico Roaming on our iPhones and we have had exactly zero problems of any sort when making calls in México to in-country numbers and to the USA.

My husband and I both have AT&T Mexico. We moved here October 2015 but wanted to keep our U.S. cell numbers. As long as we keep the data on both phones, we pay $137 U.S. monthly for unlimited texting and calls. We use WIFI as much as possible so we are not using any more data than necessary. Seems to work fine. As a backup, my husband has a Mexican phone and pays 100 pesos every 23 days.

In the last few years AT&T has really changed their plans in regards to Mexico. Contact their Rep in the States and check out their packages. They had one that we used all the time- text were free coming in. Without thanking the first trip Kathie used the text, she sent the text and forwarded about 10 friends and got charged for each one. After that she would send 1 text to her daughter and have her forward them. We have been using AT&T since Bell South merged with them.

I have used ATT here for several years and generally been OK with them. They used to have a $5.95 a month add on to their basic plan but it had a number of restrictions. They have now bought out a number of smaller providers and show up as ATT Mex instead of piggybacking on TelCel or MOvistar. I am now on their plan with unlimited voice and text and 10 gig download (they have simply followed market demand). Their voice/text works really well everywhere I have traveled. My daughter and two grandsons were here recently and had Verizon which worked well voice/text/wifi/personal hotspot.

I have two ipnes, one on ATT and one Verizon. Both work equally well on voice/text. I am presently in L Barra and have trouble getting wifi/personal hot spot to work with either provider.

OK, who let the Gremlins out? Yesterday I posted ATT and Verizon voice and text worked great for me but no personal hotspot internet connection. This a.m. Verizon internet connection works. Wifi or Bluetooth? Don't know, still trying to get ATT to work.

We use ATT and have their Mexico Roaming Bonus. It's free. You just have to sign up for it. It gives unlimited talk and text and 1gb data.

Here's the information from the website. You can just sign up on line. We went into our local ATT office to sign up because we thought there had to be a catch. There isn't. It works.

AT&T Mexico Roaming Bonus℠
$0.00/mo.
While in Mexico, enjoy unlimited talk to the U.S. and within Mexico, unlimited text, and 1GB of data. Data overage packs are applied at $20 per 1GB. Don't forget to add this for each device you're taking.

It's free. But you have to add it to your plan. You can do it easily on line or go into ATT if you have questions. As I said, I was sure there was a catch so we went into the ATT store. There is no catch. It works.

And while we were with the representative, he reviewed our plan and made suggestions that saved us some money. Sometimes things work out. Always a shock.
