¡Feliz Día de la Marina!

In case anyone was wondering what all the hullaballoo is about in the bay, pier and zócalo, it's Día de la Marina, traditionally a big deal here. The Sector Naval also formally takes over operations of the pier today.

There was a parade of boats in the morning to lay a wreath at the Piedra Solitaria in honor of fallen sailors. It's a fun event where lots of folks bring buckets and splash each other. There is going to be music and celebrations going on along the downtown waterfront, so come and join in and give thanks for the often thankless jobs carried out by our wonderful sailors. My wife and I give our thanks for their presence here every single day. They used to be the only real police we had here, and they continue doing a fine job keeping us safe.

I love giving them a thumbs-up and a Viva La Marina, to see if they'll crack a smile...

I stated that the Sector Naval takes control of the port facilities on June 1st, but officially here and across the country they take control on June 17. Expect a sea change in how things are run including the security and maintenance, aspects that the SCT and the local government have historically ignored.

Might there be a floating dock in the works?

I wouldn't hold my breath. Politicians still control the purse strings. Even the best admirals have to play ball with the thieves and scalliwags in public office. That is a universal truth. :pirate:
