Planning to fly United though Houston past 11/04 to MSP?

by Labrat ⌂ @, The Roosterfish Foundation, Wednesday, July 26, 2017, 13:22 (84 days ago)

Heads Up.

Spreadin it around since I have given United months to correct it.

FYI if you Fly United from the MSP Airport and are contemplating a Fall Vacation to Zihuatanejo!!!!!

I have been fighting this all Summer, and you can imagine the Typical Response(s) from Customer Service. (do they even have more than one real person there to push the Form Letter Button?)

Anyhow!! Be careful before you push the BUY button, and check your Return Flight to make sure you didn't just buy yourself and OVERNIGHT in Houston.

If this is of concern to you. Please contact United! The squeaky wheels get the grease!

Keith

Okay!! I can't make this any simpler!! From 11/04/17 right on though 01/06/18 United has cut off 30 Minutes of layover by having the IAH to ZIH leg of all Zihuatanejo flights depart at 11:55 AM instead of the previous 11:25 AM. This creates a 30 minute less layover for those of us on that Return Flight though IAH. This blocks anyone attempting to book R/T return flights to MSP though this entire time up to and including the first of the year (and likely beyond, as I stopped checking) from being able to Book a One Stop Return Flight though IAH to MSP. I am almost done with my Soap Boxing now, as in a short time I will have to bite the bullet, and book our Fall Trip that we so enjoy(ed) with United................though Phoenix on American. (yuk)

P.S. It isn't that we couldn't make it, since we have Global Entry and a hour/ten is plenty of time. It is that United won't allow you to even see the flight (ZIH-IAH-MSP) , let alone book it.

Do you mean that the problem is the Zihuatanejo to Houston schedule change makes the connection in Houston to MSP too tight? Or is it as your note says, a problem with the Houston to Zihuatanejo leg going down?

And you say you can't even book the tight connection going home because United doesn't consider it a legal connection?

United strikes again. I have given up on them. I've done the Dallas change. I actually preferred it to Houston, at least flying into Chicago. Can you use one of the Mexican operators like Aeromexico or Interjet?

It looks to be a function to two things Fran.

A) United scheduling no being able to get their heads around Mexico's daylight savings change.......

and

B) Rescheduling the IAH to ZIH departure to 11:55AM from the usual 11:25AM which decreases the layover in Houston by 30 minutes from previous dates.

There looks to be some headway past 11/04 Today it looks like past 11/04 you can now book it!!

11/04? Nope.

Squeaky Wheel?

Who Knows!! LOL

Couple of times flying Houston to "Zih" leg we have been delayed up to an hour because of needing a new crew. Each time the original crew would have to many hours with them flying r/t. You wonder who is scheduling the flight crews.

I have been watching United flights in November too for our annual 3 week stay. They had an overnight on the way down until mid-June, then finally changed things around to allow a same day connection. However, that was after we booked on American through DFW for 11/11-12/2. I have never taken that route before, but did not want an overnight in Houston again. We had to do that on the way back in May and on the way down last November. Convenient at the IAH Marriot, but an extra cost and delay that I want to avoid if possible.

I have been checking United almost daily for last 3 months for our 11/4 departure from DSM. Have usually booked in May. I can get there but returning is another issue. Only return option requires an overnight somewhere. And that option comes with a $900+ price tag. At first thought it was just too early and the fall schedule/flights were coming. Losing hope now for an efficient trip home. Perhaps we can carpool with our MSP friends.;-)
