Zih Summer Vacation

This appears to be our busiest weekend so far. Huge groups of families and friends were walking our streets last night, some quite late. They were also returning from Playa Las Gatas well past dark. Except for the street and beach sweepers and the garbage pickup folks (who are completely overwhelmed from the garbage our tourists are leaving on the beaches and streets, including broken glass from beer bottles on the downtown beach), municipal and federal authorities appear totally absent. No municipal police anywhere. Wandering vendors having a heyday on the beaches and in the downtown streets. Transit cops woefully absent where they are needed. No one monitoring the sea turtles laying eggs on the beach except the thieves who steal their eggs to sell. Utter chaos. Lots of locals are calling for everyone to simply stop paying local taxes. Makes no sense to pay them if the local government isn't going to do its job. And of course, next year is election year and even though it's illegal, campaigns are already well under way. Oh how I love living in a lawless land! Never a dull moment.

One of the things that is of great concern to many of us downtown residents is the number of people sleeping on the downtown beach in what we jokingly refer to as the Hotel Camarena. Most are apparently alcoholics and vagabonds, but also a good number are tourists with tents.

This gentleman appears to be staying at the Hotel Hamaca.

A fishing panga races to beach itself. A favorite common scene each morning.

Sounds like you could use some, good old Canadian or American Policing!
