It's 2:30 a.m. on a Monday morning and the noise is so loud from one of the downtown bars that my house is vibrating and I can't sleep. Welcome to the new lawless Zihuatanejo courtesy of the mayor Gustavo García Bello, who is running for re-election.

That's really disgusting. I fail to see how that kind of racket can attract customers and how they can carry on a conversation once inside.

Exactly why we could not ever Vacation nor Long Term Rent downtown.

I couldn't spend the money to lay there in frustration every night.

And this culture will spread to other areas, I fear. Think La Ropa, Las Gatos.

I know, I know, I swore off addressing this kind of thread.

If you hold to your promise on an issue like noise in Zihua, amigo, you won't be leaving yourself much room to comment on anything. As a victim of many sleepless nights in Centro, this is an issue just as relevant for us Zihuaphiles as all the attractions that bring us back year after year - and undoubtedly have caused some to spend their vacation dollars elsewhere.
We solved the nighttime problem by staying further away from Centro, though we would have preferred to remain closer to the action.

We we changed hotels 3 times in Centro before we gave up and now stay at Villa Mercedes and love it. The little hotel has so many repeat guests it is hard to make reservations for the room you want. Our first hotel was Casa Aurora- the arcade across the street got to noisy. Then we moved to Casa Celeste and some Saturday nights the walls verb rated and then finally Hotel Zihuatanejo. After that we gave up except 1 more time at Casa Celeste hoping the noise level wasn't as high as before. Sad thing in the beginning of the high noise level, when we were having breakfast across the street from Zoro's you could see apartments open that were rent previous.

You have my sympathy. In my life I have on occasion run into a similar situation-being in Motel with RACKET all night. No action from the authorities or the Motel.

We are seeing a somewhat similar situation here in La Barra de Potosi. Besides the ATvs racing up and beach at all hours the Hotels are attracting busloads of packaged tours from the inland cities. It is fun to watch the young folks playing on the beach, even organized games, and the beach can be cleaned up after summer vacation BUT the noisy parties and drunks screaming at 2 a.m. are more than a little much.

If this situation it will lead to the Perfect Paradise turning into a Party Place that attracts all kinds of problems. Think U.SA. and Mexican beach resorts during Easter/Spring break. Think havens for mass drug usage and all that brings.

I imagine La Barra locals are divided over the issue because some are profiting from it.

But the worst part is there is NO ONE to call at the moment the offensive action is taking place. We have no functional municipal police force in Zihuatanejo, and the mayor seems to turn a blind eye to almost anything that isn't about him getting a photo op for his re-election campaign. I'm a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee on Public Security and there is literally nothing for us to do because our most important recommendation from the moment the mayor formed the committee has been to simply APPLY THE LAWS, and he has ignored us as well as the general public in this respect. While many of us have influential friends in City Hall, it makes no difference as long as the mayor must approve everything, and the one minor achievement local residents made convincing the mayor to ban tour buses from La Ropa was overturned by the cabildo (city council) thanks to their political ambitions placing the interests of a handful of mostly illegal wandering vendors above the interests of La Ropa's residents and its hospitality industry that has millions of dollars invested in their respective businesses. I guess they should've simply offered a hefty bribe to the cabildo.

All kinds of solutions involving dark thoughts run through one's mind in the middle of the night when bars full of drunks ruin your sleep, especially after a few nights of the same crap. Today on a morning radio talk show a caller suggested that the title "presidente municipal" obviously is too big a title for our mayor, who apparently can't get anything worthwhile done for our community even when he issues an order to his supposed subordinates, so she just kept referring to him as Gustavo. Funny and true.

Use your resources. Find the home phone numbers of local government people and call them when you are unable to sleep to let them know the problem. If you are inconvenienced, those who can make it stop should also be inconvenienced. Just keep calling.

Record the noise and then Play it back at City Hall over some loud speakers !
That would surly get some attention !

How about WiFi-ing it in Real Time to speakers outside of the Politicos homes?

Did you have to spend much time in juvenile detention when you were younger?

Seriously, the "authorities" have or access to all the tools they need to fix this problem but the choose not to do so.

And, even more seriously, a move into a different neighborhood may be the only option.
