It is enough to make one stop drinking----almost.

Add Guy Fieri's restaurant in Playa to the list.

Smoke and mirrors. A feel-good measure by public servants simulating their jobs. Nowhere does it say they confiscated tainted or adulterated alcohol, the supposed purpose of the exercise. Just like nowhere is there proof the young Conner woman died from drinking tainted booze, though every news media in the world is pushing that narrative. The facts don't seem to matter. México is being libeled via a massive media effort. The expression FAKE NEWS certainly seems appropriate.

Rob - this was not some crayy tourist that went nuts on the booze. She was served bad booze - blacked out - then drowned in the hotel pool. Very sad. ...JB

Please JB, I've read the pertinent detailed reports in Spanish as well as the numerous sensationalized versions making the rounds in the USA, Canada, the UK and Australia. The brother admitted they drank "5 or 6 shots", though since he allegedly passed out as well that number is suspect, and I suspect it was possibly a few more since they'd been traveling and possibly hadn't eaten much, deciding instead to shoot a few tequilas upon arrival as many young travelers do. Then they allegedly accepted a shot or two of something else from tourists at the hotel bar. Personally I'm usually good after 2 or 3 shots of tequila. The woman's blood alcohol level was .25, when it was finally tested, which suggests she may have drank as much as half a bottle of tequila. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER SHE WAS SERVED BAD BOOZE. That is the family's false narrative, and it is unfair to keep repeating the lie. It hurts the millions of Mexicans whose livelihoods depend on tourism.

The behavior of too many tourists fits this same pattern of drinking to excess, especially a couple of young adults as these. I've watched it happen again and again throughout my life in the numerous tourist destinations where I've lived.

The woman's death is a tragedy, no doubt, but it is a bigger tragedy to make false claims based on ZERO EVIDENCE that hurt millions of decent hard working people and their dependents.

344 liters, not 10,000 gallons

Here's the official government report of what was confiscated and why. How 344 liters became 10,000 gallons is why I said this reeks of SENSATIONALISM and FAKE NEWS. The 40,000 liters confiscated had to do with a bottler that allegedly had substandard practices. Different incident.

"The official government report" give us a break rob, you are all ways saying the Mexican governments at many levels are CYA'S with smoke and mirrors.

So we are now to take their take on this as the gospel, nothing but the Truth!

You are of course free to ignore the facts and believe whatever you like. I don't care.

The Newsweek story simply states that one investigation led to the other discovery.

I don't think that there were Tin Foil Hat people involved.

I've always said that life is too short for bad liquor but this is ridiculous. We do most of our imbibing while on the deck or veranda of our hotel/villa anyway. Bottled spirits should be safe, one would assume. Of course, a bottle of good tequila or bourbon is never really "safe," when I'm doing the pouring.
