The second one costs more. That's what a monopoly will get you.

Its not the Taxi drivers from the airport that rip people off, it is the outfit that runs the airport that charges the taxi operators a real high licence or permission to have the concession at the airport. Don't blame the little guy

Wasn't blaming anyone, just observing.

This would explain why the drivers are so upset when friends pick us up at the airport.

It's the same all over the world, for the reasons that Rojo stated.

Certainly not the same all over the world. Bangkok air-conditioned cab from airport to hotel 39 kilometers 350 baht plus tollway. That is about 16 USD. The cost of the airport taxi in Zihuatanejo is comparable to Tokyo pricing per km. Somebody is making a lot of money and it is not the drivers.

True but we live outside of Calgary and our taxi can drop us at the airport but cannot pick us up. Unions and licenses.
PV has lower rate from condo than from airport to condo , common in Mexico

Same here in MN at MSP.

You can only take an Approved Airport Taxi FROM the airport.

You can however have a hired executive car service waiting for you.

At YVR it’s actually generally cheaper leaving the airport because the authorities introduced flat rate zones, much to the drivers chagrin. I believe ZIH is operated by a Spanish company, blame the conquistadores!

There is only 1 taxi union carrying passengers from a airport in Mexico. Both times we flew into Morelia and had a friend that has a taxi, he had to pick us up in his wife's car- he was harassed by some of the taxi drivers because the drivers knew he drove a cab. He told them we were fiends. That's just like the franchise for the duty free shops in the airport. Before the franchise took over, the duty free shops were cheaper. When we were leaving Warsaw, I could not believe how much cheaper their alcohol was. I bought 2 1 lt. bottles of a Polish Vodka that had a long strain of grass in the bottle for around $17.00 US. That franchise has not made it to Poland yet.
