Uber MEX

Anyone that has used Uber at Mexico City airport, is there a designated pickup location? Sometimes I find pick up is not near taxis.

Licensed taxis are plentiful and cheap in Mexico so there is no reason to Use Uber. And, Mexico City has a reputation for Chicos Malos (Bad Boys) cruising around in fake taxis looking for a tourist to rob.

Some years ago, the brother of a friend and a business associate traveled to Mexico City from Great Britain (their first trip abroad). They arrived at night, took the wrong taxi and were robbed of everything but their shoes in a dark alley.

All right, I'll bite.

What was wrong with their shoes, Sydney?

Perhaps the thieves were sufficiently considerate in that they didn't want them to step into dog shit barefoot?

I was thinking the thieves should have taken them....more along the lines of that old chestnut:

When you rob someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then, by the time the cops arrive, you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

(Maybe I should have clarified that you won't have the cops' shoes. Unless those were also confiscated in one of those police roundups.)

I'd beg to differ. For someone who is not from Mexico City, it might be difficult to discern which are "taxis de sitio" (really good taxis with drivers that are courteous, knowledgeable and honest) from regular taxis/taxis piratas which could have bad drivers, people looking for trouble, etc.

My recommendation is to get Uber, if you are inclined to pay a bit more then Uber X which has the more experienced drivers or a taxi de sitio from a reputable taxi stand.

Hi Cathy,
Uber from Mexico City airport is a GREAT way to go, I fully recommend it. You can even request an Uber X and the price would still be very reasonable. When you arrive at the airport and request the Uber it asks you in which door you are - it is the same procedure for Terminal 1 or 2.

Enjoy your visit! And let me know if you need suggestions, I grew up there!

I used Uber from Camino Real hotel on the airport grounds a handful of times last year. Way cheaper than the taxis and very convenient.

Thanks, good info, the proper door is what I was looking for. I've used uber x on way to airport and was a great experience. And I will keep you in mind on next trip, we have only one night in the city then back home. Cathy

The app guides you through the process, it is easy. And if for some reason here is construction or something (happened to me last time) and you can't find your driver just call them via the app and that's it.

Yes, do keep me in mind.

Safe travels!

I have used Uber to and from MEX. It is great and I feel it is safer than the taxis. You know who is picking you up and you can see the fair for your destination ahead of time. They pick you up at the same place the taxis do, you just select which door at the airport you want to be picked up at.
