Guererro Morgues Overwhelmed

by Johnny Briefcase @, Friday, November 17, 2017, 12:26 (218 days ago)

The following article in the Guardian describe how the state's morgues are unable to cope with the bodies piling up over narco related violence. It presents a very grim picture. ....JB

There's a reason this is the Message Board and not the NEWS page. Anyone wishing to read the news about our region can do so on my ZIHUATANEJO-IXTAPA NEWS PAGE.

I don't see the utility of posting grisly stories like this here. The morgues that are overwhelmed are over 200 miles away in Acapulco, Iguala and Chilpancingo. Not in Zihuatanejo.

But thanks for scaring a few more potential tourists away.

The Good and the Bad

by Gringo Viejo @, Kansas/Zihuatanejo, Friday, November 17, 2017, 17:25 (218 days ago) @ ZihuaRob

The Good: Maybe the article will scare the tourists away from Acapulco to Zhihuatanejo!

And the bad: The freedom of the "press" can work both for you and against you.

I disagree Rob. Since almost all of your News Page is in Spanish it is useless to the majority of tourists. i like news reports on this website. I love Zihua but do like to hear the good and the bad and be aware of what is really happening there,

I respectfully beg to differ about the NEWS page. The Guardian where the article was printed is listed on my NEWS page, and news 200 miles away isn't news here unless we're downwind of a nuclear or chemical fallout or it's a major earthquake, yet such a discussion here still casts a negative light unfairly on our region by association, which can easily affect decisions by potential tourists. And folks here whose livelihoods depend on tourism are not amused by discussions of morbid curiosity on this or any forum that can have a negative affect on decisions by tourists to visit us even though the event being discussed is 2 or 3 hundred miles away.

Oh well, I just thought I'd ask. Didn't mean to start another discussion about what I didn't want to talk about in the first place.

Did not plan to put in a word. Tourism here is important. We just returned. All is well. Friendly locals. Never felt worried. Agree that far away news is not pertinent.

Chrome browser (and maybe other browsers) have a translation feature that translates automatically and seamlessly as a page loads. I read the local Zihua newspapers regularly in English.
