Internet and Cable TV

We are within 2-3 weeks of moving into our house!!!!!!!!
We need internet. Good internet. Although we haven't had TV for 5+ years, we think it's probably a necessary thing for our rental apartment, and will probably have it on one of our floors, too. No telling when/if we'll buy a television.

Last year, we were told the best choices were TelMex for internet, with a land line included, that we don't need or want, and SKY for the least expensive, most English channels.

Before we go spend a day getting these things arranged, does anyone have any better suggestions? We sure appreciate it.

I lived in La Noria last year and had Tel Mex for internet and was very happy with it. I am now living in La Barra and use my Verizon iphone personal hotspot for internet. It is "doabl" but very, very slow.

In La Noria I had Mega Cable and got NBC, CBS and AVC which I liked and also had the use of a Smart Hub access for Netflix. I thought the TV was less than HD. Here in La Barra I have SKY and the HD clarity is top notch but I get CNN and Fox and some movie channels but have not tried to use Smart TV features.

I will probably be moving to the Buena Vista area next year. I am not sure what is available but will look into DISH to see if I can get more English channels.

I don't know if cable TV is available where you live, but it beats any dish service, especially when it rains. They recently upgraded to digital TV but of course you have to have their converter box, free for the first TV but 95 pesos a month for each additional TV. The quality is pretty good. Plenty of bilingual (you can switch between languages) and English channels.

And if you want even more channels your internet connection offers various possibilities besides Netflix, Izzi, Google Play and similar. My friend Javier of Siditel (see my Services page) can hook you up with some interesting packages that rival anything satellite and cable currently offer that include live TV as well as TV programs and movies on demand.

The most reliable phone and internet service by far is Telmex, though depending where you live and how much internet you need, Telcel's internet 4G is the fastest if it works in your area. There are still a lot of areas that 3G and 4G don't quite or just barely reach, so it isn't as fast in those places. When I need to transfer large files I usually switch my connection to Telcel because it so much faster.

Hope this helps! Saludos.

We are on Playa La Ropa near los delfines if that helps.

Sounds like we need to go to TelMex and get our internet connection. Phone? We don't get calls, except while we are remodeling, and don't call anyone. We have been doing pay as you go with TelCel.

Still confused about television. We need something adequate for the rental apartment, and at this time, don't care at all about TV for us. More suggestions?

My Telmex cost for internet and phone is 389 pesos/month. If you don't want the phone they reduce the cost to 349 pesos/month. All calls to US and Canada are free.

We live in La Noria and have Megacable with wifi. We didn't look for the most English channels, just convenience. Been using it almost 4 years now and we're satisfied with it.

If I understand correctly, it looks like the deal is Telex for internet, and once we have internet to program the Smart TV to use one of the free services like ustvnow. Since we haven't had TV or movies in years, that should fulfill our need and be adequate for an apartment.

Yes but Ustvnow sometimes tricky, I had to use a vpn in some countries. I don’t think you can use a vpn with a smart tv. But if you use a computer and Apple TV you can send it from the computer using vpn to Apple TV.
