Cool sleeping weather has arrived! Last night it got so nipper we had to sleep under the sheets and turn the ceiling fan down. Brrr! Where's my chocolate caliente?

For many of us who live here December means family is coming to visit for the holidays. Día de Guadalupe on Dec. 12 is just around the corner, then the fiestas of las posadas begin on Dec. 16 and last until the 24th. Get ready for some festivities!

One word of caution. The other evening someone lit a skyrocket or some similar fireworks and it exploded right in front of our bedroom window at some ungodly hour of the morning. My instinct was to shoot the MF who lit it, but apparently they were in a car driving around because I could hear several more at intervals as they drove down different streets lighting them off with impunity thanks to the complete absence of anything resembling a functional police force. The sale of fireworks are supposed to be illegal, but since the local government isn't actually in charge pretty much all our laws are being ignored, and dangerous fireworks are currently for sale in our streets around the mercado municipal. Please do not buy fireworks, and please please please do not contract for pyrotechnical displays if you are having a wedding or other celebration. These have been all the rage for years now, but most locals are extremely tired of hearing anything that explodes. Unfortunately there are too many inconsiderate folks, including a few foreigners who think it's real cute to toss loud fireworks in the streets and beaches at night. A damn shame! And this will go on until several days after Año Nuevo until las vacaciones navideñas are over. Thank you for your comprehension.

HE may have the whole world in HIS hand, but SHE has the whole sun in HERS!

One of our dogs is so afraid of fireworks' sounds. He shivers and hides in corners. Thus, we're not looking forward to el Dia de Guadalupe and other holiday celebrations because of all the fireworks that will be set off. Otherwise, we love the holidays here. I noticed today the poinsettias are out.

One of our four weimaraners has had issues with fireworks. Very sad for a hunting dog, but we don't do that now.
The classic dog tranquilizers are readily available, but we have switched to the "thunder shirt" and for our really freaked out girl, it's fabulous. For the others, we just stay close and are supportive.
We love our pets and do what we can to make them feel good.
On our former Southern California beach, it was a war zone on days like July 4. We and our neighbors just made a point of staying with them, and keeping them close.

No sensible living creature gets pleasure from the sound of explosions. We should worry for those that do.

And frankly, hearing real live death-seeking gunfire and grenades up close a few times sure kills what questionable joy one might get from explosions, particularly those made in the name of Jesus, a professed peacenik who I’m convinced would prefer steel drum music, calypso, soca, and reggae. ;-)

We totally agree.

Come check out the new group, don't know their name, that played at El Pirata tonight. Fun, Mexican surf music, and they said that they are playing there the next few Saturdays. Something a little different, and some thing fun. We'll buy you two a beverage of your choice!

¡Gracias por tu amable invitación! Pero cuidado. Podrías arrepentirte. B-)
