I see conflicting phone numbers for emergency services in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa - 911 and 066/112 cell. Can someone clarify this for me?
Thanks

Why is that conflicting for you? That’s what they are. Two of them are older versions of the relatively new 911. None of them are going to get you help very quickly. If you need an ambulance I recommend the Cruz Roja. If you need the police you may be out of luck since we don’t have a functioning police force. Half of them are in jail.

The local half joke is that if you want the police to arrive quickly, call and report an overturned beer truck.

not even a half response, why bother? If you or your spouse were having a myocardial infarction would you want to have to search web sites for the phone numbers for Cruz roja?

:wtf:

I invite you to see my list of Emergency Phone Numbers on my Telephone & Cellular Phone Information page.

If you find a number that isn't working or if you have anything you'd like to add to it please let me know.

Wow. That’s comforting! But not surprising.

Elsewhere on this site, 065 is listed as the emergency number to call for a Cruz Roja ambulance.

I had thought you might be referring to my website, but after reviewing my own page of Telephone & Cellular Phone Information I realized you may have gotten that info elsewhere since it no longer appears on my page. The 066 number should still work even though we now use 911. Not sure about the 112 for cellphone users.

That's what I get for trying to answer questions on my cellphone while trying to do 3 or 4 things at once on my computer. Please forgive my incomplete answer above.

I have read much about the failure country wide of the new 911, was unsure of the old short numbers so just put the local seven digit numbers for Cruz Roja and Bomberos in my phone. I suspect these will always be answered.

I've never had any difficulty reaching the Bomberos or Protección Civil (they are the same). Only the local municipal police have stopped answering their phone, and 911 seems clueless and woefully inefficient. I recommend calling the local Navy Base instead of the police. I told the Marinos about the problem with the local police and they suggested to call them instead for problems with public security (including turtle poachers).
