Beach Walkway

by Lee of Lino, Lino Lakes, MN, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, 14:16 (285 days ago)

We just got here Sunday and glad to be back! Looking forward to staying for two weeks this time. One dissapointing thing to see is the condition of the beach walkway. It is in dire need of repair and will hopefully see some in the near future, although with what I've read, I won't hold my breath. Other than that, the weather is warm and the people as wonderful as always:-)

I say this not in response to Lee of Lino but to the responsible authorities if they read this.

While we are committed to visiting Zihuatanejo this year it, If the walkway, Paseo de Pescador, is not maintained we will look elsewhere to spend our vacation dollars next year.

Sorry but that's a deal breaker for us.

I think he is referring to the walkway that starts just past the museum and ends at Playa Madera. I would be interested to know if the lights are working.

Whichever walkway, it seems pretty thin gruel on which to base one's vacation plans. Now, if he threatened local authorities that he'd spend his vacation dollars elsewhere if they couldn't provide basic police services.....

We never have felt threatened in Zihua. Of course we use the normal common sense precautions that we would use in any city including our own which, BTW, hasn't had a homicide in the last twenty years.

We base our vacation choices on things that attract us, things and places we want to experience, not on a fear of being assaulted or worse.

When you have the world to choose from, and yes, we have traveled the world, the fact that Zihuatanejo has been on our list for so long speaks volumes about it, or rather what it was.

I hope I'm wrong and a new administration restores Zihuatanejo to it's former unique self then the only thing keeping us away will be the end of us.

I know it sounds silly but we take that walkway typically 3 round trips a day. Our first visit to Zihua must have been just after it was completed, nice rope railing, lights worked, lots of refuse boxes, we fell in love with Zihua and that walkway is a big part of the attraction for us.

Sad thing is all the people we have met and dealt with in our visits have been universally wonderful and they deserve better.

I sincerely hope a new administration will turn things around but realistically I haven't much hope of that happening. I've been told by residents that while the public face of the administration may change the power behind it calling the shots remains the same old families.

We can well imagine how Rob fell in love with this place so long ago, it must have been heaven on earth. We're envious Rob.

@Lee of Lino

What you mentioned is just one of many examples of the excellent attention and dedication to the basic infrastructure the President Licenciado García and his crew are providing.

You can find another, in the form of what remains of a bench seat, now in skeleton form, on El Paseo del Pescador, just to the Cancha side where the Plaza de Artesanias (?) is.

We have seen the decomposition of Zihua. We now chose to only bring friends to catch the water taxi to Las Gatas.

Deterioration? Maybe.
As far as I can tell, Zihua is still alive and kicking. ;-)

The correct name for the corridor is:

"Plaza del Artista"
