Not to diminish the tragedy in Ixtapa, but I also would be interested in the frequency and methods used to rob tourists of their belongings and money. Thanks

This is another joke thread correct?

The fact of the matter is if you have pesos in your wallet you will not be "ripped off" If you want to carry American/Canadian money and insist on paying that way you will never get the correct exchange rate.

Keep your chit locked up, and don't leave money laying around.

I am getting annoyed with these threads! :wtf:

Not to be disrespectful LV, there's probably more crime in LV than Zihua/Ixtapa. Use common sense!! Relax, enjoy and explore the beauty of the culture, and people of Mexico. B-)

My point was is it safe to walk around Zihua without looking side ways and backwards for possible muggings and snatchings? Reasonable question after reading all the hysterical posts regarding safety. Thanks and sorry for any misunderstanding.

The point is things happen, but not enough to be constantly worried. I’m only aware of one robbery in the last month. My memory is short, but it’s all I recall hearing about since arriving, beginning of November..

Regardless of where you are walking around, you should always be aware of your vulnerability. In other words, stay alert as to what is around you and might be a threat of some sort. But my experience is that Z is certainly no worse than anywhere else. Better than most.

Larceny in Zihua/Ixtapa

Thanks for your honesty. I haven't been to Zihua in 20 years and I realize things have changed. But I still believe that the pluses still outnumber the minuses. The weather is still wonderful, the people are still wonderful, the prices are still wonderful and the safety factor is less of a concern after reading the encouraging responses on the message board. Looking forward to my trip Jan 23.

There have been instances where punks on the beach late at night have harassed people- that is few and far between.
