Cab 452 Avoid

Likes to overcharge! Then when you do not agree to his over charges he proclaims BULLSCRAP This cab is an "avoid" if possible! For the record he proclaimed I owed him a 100 pesos from Ixtapa to Z. Which is not the correct rate at 75 pesos.

For the record 2........ It only took 6 days to get a cab to proclaim a false rate. Three more months to go!

Even if you know what the fare is in advance, it's always a good idea to ask the driver what he will charge you. If he is charging too much, ask him to come down. If he won't, hail another cab. This procedure has never failed for me.

These guys don't make a ton of money; so in the big scheme of life; I would't get too hot & bothered if one of them tries it on for an extra buck. Not worth the effort. ....JB

I think asking a cab for the price is the biggest mistake one can make. It has been at least 8 years since I stopped asking. It REALLY makes life easier. Why would I ask when the prices are set? Now I would ask, if getting a cab between 12pm and 6am.

Not hot, or bothered at all.....just reporting.

The cab that fights back after giving them the correct fare are in my opinion the most corrupt and worst offenders. Yes I gave this guy multiple outs after speaking up....defiant to the end he was. ;-)

After having been ripped off recently, I have started to ask the fare, but I don't ask how much is it, I quote the fare and add "Si?". That has worked well, so far. I realize driving cabs in Zihua is not a big money maker, so I do tip well for extra service, such as carrying the grocery bags through the gate.

Posts like this really make me crazy! So Midalake feels cheated out of about $1.30 USD. for a 10 to 15 mile taxi ride? I honestly do not know how many of the taxi drivers even make money. Let’s break this down. They have to purchase or lease a vehicle, maintain the vehicle, pay for their annual license, then pay USD prices for gasoline. Here in Chicago this is the standard rate for Yellow Cab.

$3.25 – Flag Pull (Base Fare)
$2.25 – Each additional mile
$0.25 – Every 36 seconds of time elapsed
$1.00 – First additional passenger
$0.50 – Each additional passenger after first passenger*
$50.00 – Vomit Clean-up Fee
$4.00 – Illinois Airport Departure Tax**
$0.50 – Tech Fee*Applies only to additional passengers aged 13 through 64.

Visitors also have to realize that paying inflated prices for cabs can have a secondary effect on prices for locals who rely on them for their daily tasks and to get to and from work.

Hola
Who gives a flying f what Chicago taxis charge. This is Zihua. I doubt very much they would charge that for a Mexican national. Why would they charge that much for us foreigners? I know a lot of them look at us and see $ signs on our foreheads. Don't let them get away with it.

Agree with JB and Dione. Ask the price first and if you don't like the price go to another cab, take a bus or walk. I've been going to Zihua for over 20 years and I still ask the price before I get in. If you can't afford the cab, maybe you can't afford the holiday.

So to follow your logic, if everytime you go shopping and there is a price posted and the cashier says it is a 1.50 US more, than you should just pay it because they only earn 100 pesos a day working there? Or if the restaurant tags the tip on to your bill and it is higher than you wanted to pay, it is OK because the server is only paid 150 pesos a day at best and they deserve it whether you wanted to give it or not? It is dishonest, and it is a problem. If you want to pay more than tip the driver. Don't advocate theft. I live here and operate on normal standards, not visitor standards, so on the rare occasions I take a cab, I don't want them thinking I will pay more just by my skin color.

Obviously I did not make my point. The reason I used Chicago Taxi rates as an example is because the cost of gasoline is the same. All I am trying to say is that a one mile ride should not be the same price as a 10 mile ride. Flat rates for longer distances or longer travel times due to traffic do not seem fair.

I have also come to the conclusion that posting on this message board is a waste of my time. I'm so F'n tired of the negative and rude responses.

I didn't see my response as rude. To the point and maybe a little blunt, but not rude. Sorry if I offended as it was not my intent.

Feel free to email me and you can send me money for 30% of your earnings last year.

You email me I will provide the info. Cashiers check, or bank wire, sorry your check is no good!

Hola
Dione, if you post something here, be prepared for the consequences. There are a lot of opinionated people on this board. Either suck it up or say goodbye.

Did you take the taxi from the Bay View Grand property where you live or did you hail him in the street? It makes a difference since taxis on hotel and condo properties often have to pay the property a fee to line up there awaiting passengers, thus they may charge a little extra.

Usually mentioning Profeco takes care of overcharging.

Yup!

Hotel front desks usually have a Taxi Rate Sheet for the asking as well.

Just an FYI

Hailed from the street. We do not allow taxis to wait here and do not have a posted fee schedule.
