Trip Report Week 1

by Dave and Sarah @, Brier, Wa, Sunday, January 14, 2018, 13:44 (305 days ago)

We are ending our first week of 4. Getting the green light at the airport and settling into our room in La Madera came easily. What a wonderful greeting we had arriving at our bungalow from staff and old friends. We then wondered down to the basketball court to enjoy tamales and juice, it was Sunday night. What a pleasure it was to see the towns people and tourists enjoying themselves!

Monday and Tuesday morning's found us going to the Mercado and downtown Zihue to stock our room, making it ours. The afternoons were spent at the beach enjoying the sights and sounds.

Wednesday we learned how to catch the airport bus to pick up our friends who are here for the first time.

Thursday was spent at Playa Madera enjoying the beach and having dinner at one of the restaurants on Calle Adelita, we call this restaurant row. You can't go wrong with any of the restaurants.

Friday 5 of us walked from La Madera to Las Gatas. We spent a good portion of the day snorkeling then walked back. Needless to say it was a great day and we all had a good sleep that night!

The ladies spent Saturday exploring downtown while the men relaxed on the beach.

It is amazing how much we have done in just week. We are looking forward to this next weeks adventures.

Zihue restores the love in your heart in a hate filled world!

Nice report! I'm especially impressed by your taking the bus to the airport and back. Would love to hear more about that experience...

The bus was easy! We walked to the Mercado catching it at the beginning of its run. We handed the driver $14.00 pesos and heard the sweet word "perfecto". The buses to the airport are the size of mini vans with a red stripe painted just below the windows with the word "airport" written on the windshield.

We rode thru areas we had not seen before but made it to the airport with time to spare.

The 4 of us crowded into a taxi back to La Madera.

This has given us the confidence to do it again next year when we get to introduce a sister and brother in law to Zihue.

Nice to hear that you're putting "everything" into your vacation. Good for you! Just wondering how many minutes did it take you to walk from La Madera to Las Gatas? Enjoy your stay!!

Just a little nit pick note on the bus ,especially for those whose Spanish is even worse than mine- the bus says Aeropuerto, not Airport.

Does the airport bus stop in front of the Mercado, or across the street?

We caught the bus across the street from the Mercado. It does make a stop opposite Oxxo at the Kioto circle.

Did you walk to Las Gatas on the road, or on the beach?

We walk the beach as much as possible. La Madera beach up to the street at La Rana Rene. Up the hill past The Irma Hotel. A little walk along the street then down to La Ropa beach until we are past Rossy's. We then find the dirt road to walk along. There is a little bit of rock navigating about half way there but not too bad.

It took us about an hour. We stopped to look at the cocodrilo and iguanas between Arenas and El Mangalar restaurants.
