The US State Department has put level 4 alert status for Zihua. Any insight into what that is all about? We have friends who just got back and said it was just like the last time they went. No problems.

As has been mentioned numerous times, Zihua is not a crime-free place. We conduct ourselves responsibly, don't worry and look forward to our next visit in April.

I suspect the U.S. State Department wants its citizens to spend their vacation dollars in the USA. Nothing has changed here since last year except there are more Canadians coming and more affluent Mexicans from our inland cities. Don't know anything about the Canadian alert. Apparently Canadian tourists aren't paying it much attention.

The Canadians have an alert for Guerrero State, but exempt Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, and Acapulco. Oddly, that was the US alert as well (for US Govt. employees, which we are not)

Well there are a LOT of Canadians here this year and lots of locals are commenting on it. Being a former Floridian I know how much Canadians are appreciated and how much economic weight they carry during tourist season. They were the first to arrive and the last to leave on several coastal islands I lived on in Florida, and recently they have been responsible for helping Zihuatanejo get through difficult times while the US government has been steering its citizens away from here.
Some folks here in Mexico blame the ongoing NAFTA negotiations for the U.S. government's decision to emit such a warning though there's been no change here on the ground from last year. Could be.

Someone’s family member for whom I ask that you show a bit more respect. I doubt it was anyone you know.
