Just purchased a lovely painting to take back home. Unfortunately,it will be too large to put in our suitcase after it is rolled up into a tube. We are flying United and hoping they will let us take it on the plane. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Appreciate all ideas.

Have had no trouble bringing back art rolled up in cardboard tubes as a personal carry on. We occasionally travel with plastic collapsible art tubes if we suspect we will be buying art.

Will depend on how big it is though . If its really big, and if you have a hard fishing rod case, it might work, but what would you do with the rods? They go with the rest of your luggage as oversize.

If it's in a tube like a fishing rod holder they will often stand it up in the closet in first class where they hang coats. I don't know if this will work on the smaller commuter planes. If you put it in the overhead bin make sure it's the last thing in, not the first, or someone will cram in their oversize bag and slam the door shut.

That will be my second carry on so I’m assuming I’ll get charged.
