Semana Santa - Groceries

I will be arriving on March 30... Good Friday... about 3:30 PM.

My usual routine before going to Troncones is to rent a car, go to Comercial, buy a few days’ worth of groceries, go downtown to buy some fresh coffee beans and a pollo rostizado. Then I come back in to Zihuatanejo a couple of days later to buy a week or two’s worth of groceries.

Given that this would have me shopping on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, would I be likely to experience any difficulties because of the days?

Not at all, Ernie. It’s just another day for corporate owned chain supermarkets.

I beg to differ. As far as opening hours, no changes. However, since Semana Santa is one of the busiest times for Z/I sometimes supermarkets can't predict demand of products perfectly, so you may find your usual/preferred brands are not available. There are a lot of out of stock products during Semana Santa and the days prior to New Year's.

The only thing that doesn't happen Good Friday is meat slaughter, so at least in Mexico City, some taquerias and butchers close.

If you are staying for long, normally they re-stock by mid-week Easter week.

How about coffee?

I usually buy at Cafe Costa del Sol on B. Juarez.

They’ll probably be closed, but Café Caracol will probably be open.
