Caves in Troncones

I’ll be visiting Zihua March 1-9, looking for someone to go to the Troncones caves with me. Just one of those things i don’t want to do on my own (exploring caves alone just seems dangerous).
I’d love company for other things too if caves aren’t your thing, they just looked really cool :)

There are guides here in Troncones that will take you. I recommend Alejandro with Costa Nativa tours.

Awesome! Do you happen to know costs? I had looked at one tour place earlier, but they were a bit pricey and minimum of 2 people :(

Here's a link: Majahua Cave Hike.
Price listed is "From $35 USD", and I didn't see anything about minimum group size.

I think I may have been in that cave, or a different one in that same area, about 7-8 years ago. It is an awesome trip. Just the drive up through Majahua into the country, and then the hike up the hill (mountain?!) is worth the trip. The caves are just surplus!

If this is the same place I went, there are two things you should consider. First the walk up the hill is awesome, but can be physically tiring as it is a long walk and uphill. Make sure you have water and are otherwise prepared for a hike. Second, unless they have changed things since I went, the caves are au natural, with limited or no bridges, walks or improved paths to get in, out or around inside the cave. You climb across rocks, etc. at times. But that is half the fun.

Don't bet me wrong, I am not discouraging you from going, in fact I encourage you to go. It is truly an awesome trip. But you should be aware of what the trip is so you can plan accordingly.

Also note, I did not go with a professional guide, so that may change the experience.

My son and grandsons (6 & 9 ) took your advice relative to guides yesterday and had a great time. Initially when my son was in the cave , he dismissed it as a 10 minute visit. An hour and a half later he and the kids were still there. The kids were totally mesmerized by it . They considered it the highlight of this visit with us. .

Hello, I know you wrote this awhile ago, but how easy was it to get to the caves? We’re deciding if it’s worth a guide, or easy enough to find.

You need a guide. It may be OK for you to find but you won't enjoy it fully without someone to show you what there is to see. It is a tough climb to it, into it etc. as well.

Although it wasn't me to go with them, my son and grandkids totally agree with your assessment. Wear good shoes or sneakers and make sure you bring water. It is quite a steep climb.

I will be staying at La Ropa Beach from March 6th to the 15th. I love Caving. Don't have any special gear. Other than my flashlight. LOL tjb076@gmail.com
