Interjet...Good things must come to an end

In the past, I have praised and recommended Interjet on here and other places for their inexpensive fares and luggage policies. Well, looks like they went the route of other carriers and changed policy.

Previously, their low fare tickets allowed 22kg of luggage per passenger. No baggage count just a limit on the weight per ticket. Now, there are three tiered pricing options. The lowest fare is carry on only now (this rate is in line with their old low fare option that allowed checked bags to 22kg). For double the price, you can bring 1 piece of luggage up to 22kg. The third option is more than 4x the price of the low fare ticket, but has a generous luggage allotment.

Bottom line, If you are traveling with luggage, Interjet fares are now comprable with most other carriers, some of those being direct from my departure city. I have looked at numerous dates and destinations and it looks like this increase or change in policy is across the board.

John Redcorn, My memory is questionable at best but I seem to remember reading something along the lines of what you report when researching and then paying for a DOMESTIC flight within Mexico. My first read of the information was as you say regarding the cheapest option. The sale fare was still very reasonable and we just accepted that a baggage fee would be charged as a cost of getting to ZIH.

After I paid I was reading a secondary page about weight restrictions or something like that and the first bag then seemed to be free. In practice the big bag indeed was free and just a pinch under the generous weight allowance.

The discrepancy might be a Domestic/International thing but the first big bag and really stretched carry on and murse all were free in December.

Again, I stress the wobbly memory that is not dependable for true budget comparisons but that's how it went for us.

I will add the off topic addition because SouthWest Airlines do not fly into ZIH but do fly into Cancun and many Caribbean locations and they DO still allow two large rolling bags, a carry on and a purse. This is useful for charity bags for some of those hurricane damaged locations or country folk near Cancun.

Please be happy always

My hunch was correct. I emailed them to clarify and it seems they have begun pricing similar to other carriers. Sucks. I used to be able to fly with them for half the price of a United ticket. Now United is direct and Interjet has a MEX layover for about the same price.

Here is their response:

Dear passenger:

Thank you for your time. As part of Interjet growth proces according to our passengers needs, we had a restructuring in our fare rules. Please visit https://www.interjet.com/en-us/flying-with-us/fares for more information.

I hope you find this information useful, please contact us if you have any other cuestion, we are glad to assist you.

It is my understanding you can book the "light" fare of the ticket and then pay for your bags. This option is cheaper than booking "Optima or priority" options?

In fact I just checked with them and the first bag cost on a "light fare" is $25. For two bags is $65 So for my fare that I am looking at the "light fare" is WAY CHEAPER than the other two fare choices.
