Since we were already tired of winter, we decided to look for a last minute, inexpensive vacation to one of two vacation spots that we have never been to in Mexico. It was either going to be Cozumel or Ixtapa.

We booked a two week package for the last week in Oct. and the first week in Nov. to Hotel Cozumel and Resort. Yep, it was all-inclusive. Two reasons we picked this one was location, location, location and we couldn't get into the Blue Angel.

The hotel was a lovely old traditional Mexican hotel that was squeaky clean with a super friendly staff. For a cheap package, the buffets were fairly decent. It was a perfect spot to take off for some of the most beautiful snorkeling you will find any where. That is what we did two -three times a day. With the combination of water clarity, the many forms and colors of the coral, fishes and other sea critters; was like being in living art. Amazing experience.

The town of San Miguel was a nice typical Mexican town with a beautiful zocalo(sp). We would head there in the evening after the cruisers went back to their buffets and listened to the live music that played most nights. The music was very nice acoustic guitars or nice mellow Mariachi. During the day, the town is a 'mad-house' of sorts with all the cruisers deboating.

Aside from the snorkeling, the neatest thing we witnessed were the little Mexican kids dressed up in their Halloween costumes trick and treating at the zocalo on Halloween night. Parents brought bags of candy to hand out to all the little tricksters.

All in all I would recommend Cozumel if you are into diving or don't mind mobs of people. I'll take Z any day!
