If you're talking about airport ground transportation their new rates are listed on my Airport Ground Transportation page.

For regular local taxis their fares can be found on my Local Transportation page.

We needed a taxi back to Barra from Zih one evening. I think it was during Carnival a few years ago.
Several taxis were not interested in taking us. Several wanted hideously expensive fares. Finally we found one young fellow who gave us a very reasonable price and off we went. He had to stop at a police building/check point just out of Zihua. Was a bit disconcerting until we realized what he was checking in.
I have to say, it was bit scary, mostly due to the darkness and my vivid imagination, I suppose.
As I understand it, the price goes up after dark. I'd suggest if you know a particular driver, try to arrange something before hand and avoid a last minute search.

Thanks..we spent 11 years visiting La Barra and never had a problem finding a cab to take us back although generally it wasn't later than about 9:30 pm..sometimes needed two cabs so a bit of bargaining. Will be friends new to the area, not us on this trip, so trying to forearm them with as much current information as possible.
I'm thinking from Rob's post ( and assuming fare chart is updated) that at most they'll pay 400mx for the trip.
We always appreciated the check in point..both for our reassurance and for the cabbie's..

Off topic - security roadchecks

Off topic, but that taxi checkpoint on the road heading south out of Zihua reminds me of a similar experience heading from the airport into Belfast, Northern Ireland in the late 70s, during "the Troubles". It was around midnight, and four of us were sharing a taxi. Right in the middle of nowhere, the taxi stopped and turned off his headlights. No explanation why. Then, after a few seconds, he advanced slowly, still in total darkness. After perhaps 100 yards, we reached a British army checkpoint, which itself was in almost total darkness. The 8 or 10 heavily-armed soldiers checked us out, opened the hood and trunk, etc., then placed mirrors on long poles under the car, looking for explosives. The taxi driver later explained that the checkpoint must be approached in total darkness because to do so using regular headlights would expose the "Tommies" to possible sniper fire.

I agree, the security checks in N Ireland were a bit nerve wracking when I was there in the early 90s. Seemed like the soldiers were young kids sticking their automatic rifles into the car and our faces. Was strange to us, but commonplace to locals!

We were in Donnegal in April 98 when the Good Friday Accords were signed. As we crossed into Northern Ireland, the roads were open but the sepentine barricades and towers were still in place but abandoned. Very spooky.

Amigo, those are abusive rates. It should be around $360 without A/C (and the weather is perfect right now, no A/C necessary).

Monday from Barra de Potosi to Zihua was $300. Two different drop-off points. This was the quoted price. No haggling required.

It's always been cheaper to get to Zihua from La Barra than it has been to get back out to La Barra. Appreciate the current info and will tell my friends to negotiate 400mx tops back out to La Barra if 360 is highway robber lol...They'll only be doing this one time so not a huge issue.
