Who, or what is "La Verdad de Zihuatanejo" and how do their gruesome photos and posts show up on my Facebook page?
I'm curious because I've yet to "friend" anyone, including Mrs. HolyMole.

Hah! Just checked my Facebook, (which I don't do very often: I have no idea how it works) and discovered I HAVE NINE FRIENDS. Who knew? How'd they get there? I certainly didn't knowingly do it. Was it you, Tess? After all, you're the one who set up my Facebook page, in spite of my disinterest.

Turns out Mrs. HolyMole is my friend, after all. And ZihuaRob! Could Rob be the source of these "La Verdad de Zihuatanejo" posts?

I posted the above back in March and never got a response, which is puzzling. Is "La Verdad" a newspaper? It's not listed among Rob's "News" sources. Is it a blog? If so, who's behind it? What is their motivation, and what are their intentions? I never solicited their stories, but apparently receive news of every shooting or.....probably on a slow news day.... the latest car accident. These are the only "news" stories I ever receive from La Verdad de Zihuatanejo. Is this the face of Zihua that hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands of potential visitors are seeing? As long-time Zihuaphiles, we're able to balance much of this extremely negative publicity with our own favourable experiences, but what about those whose only exposure to Zihua may be through La Verdad?

Que pasa?

This is what you know as "yellow journalism" or what we call amarallismo. Unfortunately locals must use sources like this to keep up with matters that too often go unreported in the newspapers that reply heavily on government "advertising". They tend to make it look like things are much worse than they are.

Our state Congress is one step away from legalizing opium cultivation for medicinal use. This is a step in the right direction. Meanwhile the gringo government announced once again they are ready to do battle with the narcos, proving they are indeed crazy. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the very definition of crazy. How long does a policy have to fail before their government will change the policy? 50 years? 75? 100? MADNESS!

I suspect the gringo government WANTS the violence to continue because it's good business for their greed-driven capitalism. As long as there is profit in misery there will be endless needless misery.
