Just in case you haven't heard, the Secretaría de Salud del Estado (SSA) has declared a temporary ban on eating bivalve mollusks allegedly due to the presence of "red tide" toxins from the Costa Chica to the Río Balsas. The entire coast of Guerrero. Sounds like a lot of hooey to me, but I don't recommend eating local clams or oysters anyway due the lack of sufficient functional wastewater treatment plants in most communities along our coast.

The Redtide toxin is a major health concern in Pacific coastal waters of Canada and warnings are posted almost every year.
I would certainly avoid eating any bivalve shellfish if the local government has issued a public warning.

Flying out yesterday afternoon out over the ocean past Playa Larga, I could see large red algae blooms in the water. I would trust the authorities in this instance.
