On Zih Watch for Carlotta

The Jet Ski Freeride Tour arrived to Ixtapa and put on a show late yesterday afternoon on Playa El Palmar that entertained hundreds of spectators on the beach. They will be performing again later this afternoon if you would like to see them.

The mezcal "tasting" event yesterday evening on the downtown beach in front of the museum was well attended by hundreds of young people who sure appeared to have a good time. They will be there again tonight in case you want to join in the "fun". I didn't see any bodies on the beach this morning, so that was a good sign.

The beach cleaners were working hard this morning removing garbage from the beach washed down from the hillsides and from the canals. Playa Principal was looking pretty good, and the bay was nice and calm this morning. The calm before the storm?

Lots of folks are anticipating the arrival of Carlotta, some more anxiously than others. While we can certainly use the rain, we prefer not to get it in torrential deluges. The storm has been growing steadily while sitting offshore. It's also made a bit of a turn more northerly in our direction from its previous northeasterly trajectory. Nice little storm off the Yucatán peninsula, too. Funners!

As I always suspected it would, Carlotta is now making a beeline straight for Zihuatanejo. Lightning is hitting all around the bay including a hit right on Playa Principal just a few minutes ago. Take care and stay alert.

Thanks for the updates, Rob.

I've been tracking the storm since last night - - still hoping for a strong east wind to push her back out to sea.

Prepare for the worst - hope for the best....and please, BE SAFE!

There’s a light rain right now, but I expect the action to pick up and for things to get more interesting during the afternoon.

It looks like Zihuatanejo dodged a bullet. The sierra ripped Carlotta’s heart out and the storm was downgraded to a tropical depression, but it is now here and is still packing strong winds and the potential for heavy rains. The coast fronting the open ocean is bearing the brunt of the storm damage. Tomorrow we’ll know how bad.

Stay alert! We’re not out of the woods yet.

Any Update? Would appreciate some info on Barra de Potosi also.

The wind died down and it’s been raining most of the morning with some fog. No idea about La Barra but I imagine it’s just another lovely rainy day in paradise for them.

Any damage to the beach?

As far as I know all the beaches along the coast of Guerrero have suffered from the high waves and winds of the past two storms.

See the webcams on my Beaches page.
