Wow! Mexico 1 Germany Nada!

We saw only the last 25 minutes, and it looked like Germany would score every time they took possession of the ball, but Mexico held on. The pundits said that Mexico deserved the win, so they must have played very well in the first 65 minutes. Germany apparently had something like 25 shots...almost unheard of, without scoring a goal.
What a stupendous victory!

The collective roar of Mexicans shouting ¡GOL! was deafening. But the shouts of ecstasy as the seconds ticked down and the game ended and Mexico beat the defending World Cup champions was literally the shout heard round the world. A terrific present to a suffering nation for Día del Padre.

¡VIVA MÉXICO! :vivamexico:

Did you read where the joyous fans created a small earthquake in MC. I almost fell over when I saw the headlines and then read the short article. The stadium must have really been rocking from all the jumping- 600 to 1.

The stadium where the match was played is in Moscow, but tens of millions of soccer fans in the Valle de México jumping for joy when the national team made a goal allegedly set off seismic sensors in the region. Amazing, if true.

I do not follow soccer- did not realize the match was not in MC when I saw the article about the fans.

And then England made it too. Now England VS Mexico in the final would really cause some ambivalent emotions in our family!:badass:

Watching Soccer is my least favourite activity.
However watching Mexico play in the company of my Mexican son in law and his Mexican countrymen here in Akberta is one of my favourite activities. Watching them crush England would be great.

Please indulge me while I share the following:
I had a patient on Sunday in the ICU here in the USA who had a heart attack the previous night. An awesome, wonderful (incidentally, younger --please help anyone you know who smokes to quit), gentleman who was originally from Mexico. He had a wonderful attitude and spirit even before turning on the TV and seeing the news that Mexico had won. Needless to say, the news made him even more alive, with an even bigger ear-to-ear smile. I asked him who the opponent was and he didn't know. Well, I love futbol, so I would have gone berserk with excitement if I had known it was Germany, I probably would have given him another heart attack!

Ain't this thang we call life amazing?! And potentially fragile and fleeting...let's never miss an opportunity to show our loved ones how much we care.
Saludos, amigos!
