Last year a reader asked me about a real estate agency in Ixtapa, and when I looked into it the information they gave on their website was false regarding their offices, and eventually the website disappeared after the tourist season. It looks like they may have resurfaced, this time using a different address that apparently doesn't exist, but their domain name is registered to an address in Ixtapa that corresponds to a different business altogether which I won't name in case they are unaware of what's going on.

The website uses the name "Ixtapa 21" and offers an incredible number of local vacation rentals at unreal prices, including at hotels like Club Med and La Casa Que Canta, and of course they'll accept your credit cards and give you a discount if you hurry and reserve now. They've apparently only been in business less than 3 months, and I expect they'll have disappeared by the end of the summer vacation season when folks who sent money start showing up and finding they've been taken and have no reservations or any vacation lodgings.

I was contacted by some property owners who wanted to know what to do since they have no relationship with this business even though several properties of theirs appear on the website. I tried to give them the best advice I could about whom to contact and what to report. But I also wanted to alert my readers and I hope you'll help spread the word among your contacts so that folks don't get taken advantage of.

Rob,

May I suggest that you or the affected parties contact all of the Credit Card Processors. The CC company will prevent charges form being made by the Fake business.
