State Department Level 4

I know crime is everywhere, just have to ask. Level 4 alert, the highest is now issued for the state. Are any of the kidnappings, hostage, etc in the Zihua/Ixtapa area, or more in other areas of the state.

Is is better to not take the local buses to Troncones, La Majua and taking a taxi would be safer.

We have been all over Mexico riding buses, but this alert , well anyone there can give me an honest opinion would be appreciated.

If the State is Level 4, what is the Level for Chicago. Look how many were shot and killed over the weekend. Sad the violence is mostly in certain neighborhoods.

We live here year-round and nothing's changed in the past couple of years here in Zihuatanejo.

I could write pages......but I will skip to the chase. Most people think the level 4 is a complete farce. AND when consulate people were here over the winter and pressed on the question they had no answers. D

Thank you. That is all I wanted to know. How many times does someone have to mention Chicago, I wasn't asking about Chicago, guess I should have mentioned the state I was referring to for the Level 4.

The question was referring to Guerrero, not Illinois, New York, or California.

My good friend was murdered in Zihua recently.. I'm pretty upset about it. The violence is real. Some of you might have to get your heads out of the sand...

I am sorry about your friend, I can understand why you would be upset. There is violence in the area and each person that is killed it is a shame and a tragedy. We shouldn't negate that experience and I thank you for sharing your perspective.

That doesn't change the experience that I and others who live here have and that we do feel safe. It doesn't change the statistics that show tourists coming to the area are statistically more likely to experience violence in most cities in the U.S. than to experience it here. I invite and bring my own friends and family to the area without any hesitation.

Condolences as well. I lost a fishing Capt. in 2017. And know of three families that had to flee the area. Saddens my heart. But violence against locals and tourist are worlds apart. D

I completely agree with Midalake. If you are coming here to compete with the cartels in their businesses then you probably have something to worry about. Otherwise Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa are as safe as just about any other place. We regularly walk between La Ropa and downtown and in roads and trails all around and have never felt unsafe. Come and enjoy the sunsets, beach and ocean without too much worry :-)

Sad part about Level 4, is how it effects some US Government employees. My son is in the FBI and always caution us not to travel to "Z". He can not come here- FBI Rules.
Can hardly wait till I tell him we are doing 2 7 day Cruises in March 2019 and each Cruise stops in Havana on Saturday and departs on Sunday- guess he'll disown his father.
