Well, now it turns out the pier won't get rebuilt until next year, according to the latest from the gobernador's office. Gotta let those millions draw plenty of interest in a bank account. ;-)

Oh, and the work on the walkway by footbridge near La Boquita canal by the museum looks like it's going to include the failing wall on the east side by the mouth of the canal. The huge hole in the wall on the west side of the canal less than 20 yards away is still there. For some reason it hasn't occurred to anyone to throw up some sandbags around it to keep the water that washes in from the waves from accumulating there. It still hasn't rained other than a few light sprinkles during the past few weeks. If they wait until a serious storm comes it could be the one that causes the canal wall to fail.

And finally it looks like the ejidatarios are going to do what I've always suggested, taking more drastic action to get Fonatur to pay them the huge debt for lands in Ixtapa expropriated around 45 years ago but for which the ejidatarios were never paid or otherwise reimbursed. They haven't made public exactly what they're going to do, but I've always suggested closing off the highways into and out of Ixtapa, or at the very least blocking access to the over 400 hectares that they haven't been compensated for. A real shame the federal government is forcing their hand, but corruption cannot be allowed to reign.

This lovely view from the pier this morning included a cloud with a silver lining.

This is on the government, and THEY REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. I recommend you get on board or get out of the way. It's not correct that so many enjoy the fruits of Ixtapa except the folks whose land was taken from them to build it.

Did you fall off the Turnip/Snowflake truck today???? I am a foreinieer. I do not get an opinion nor can I enguage in anything political BY LAW.

HOWEVER if I could give an opinion. It would be best served by your " ejidatarios" to get an attorney and head for Mexico City.

:snicker:
They've been there and done that. They have to keep paying attorneys off with land, and they don't have any more to spare. A special agrarian court was even set up a couple of decades ago to deal with ejido land disputes, but this dispute is so old no one wants to touch it, and the federal government keeps using delaying tactics in the courts. The ejidatarios can win a court decision against the federal government but they can't make the federal government comply with it. Too many laws written BY criminals FOR criminals. This is exactly the kind of thing folks expect López Obrador to fix. Fonatur knows the clock is ticking against them.

A marvelous glow in the eastern sky greeted us as we left our home for our morning stroll today.

The glow must have been through the smoke that has almost completely blocked out the hills here in Zihuatanejo and made even opening the windows a health hazard.

I don't see any smoke-covered hills or even smell any smoke from our home. Looks like a rather lovely day. What hill do you live on?

It hasn’t smelled all day here by the waterfront until within the past hour or so. Bummer. And no rain in sight.
