Yesterday morning during our stroll along the waterfront my wife and I were thoroughly disappointed and disgusted by the massive amount of garbage leftover from a men's beach soccer game the night before on the Playa Principal. At least as much trash as the rain had washed onto the beach from the previous night. Last night there was another beach soccer game, this time between female teams. The beach around the tournament area was pristine this morning. Not a cup or bottle or screp of paper or plastic. Just lovely. I think we found the problem.

The turtles keep arriving. Since they've been arriving for a couple of months now some of their nests are already hatching, so please be careful on the beaches.

Nice pictures again Rob! Have they finally start doing work on the walking trail along the Madera?

Yes, that's what they're working on.

Awesome news as this is something that is often discussed by visitors. I just hope they do a good job at fixing the issues and not just a patch as this has been ongoing for years. And once it is fixed, if they could only maintain it ;-) I would think it is not a large expense but a very visible issue and imagine if any tourists would get hurt because of the condition of this walkway all the bad publicity that would generate. I don't get why it took this long to get at it but happy it is finally getting done and that they are properly fixing the canal issue too...

For several reasons, the walkway needs very regular maintenance but still it is so much nicer and safer than it was when we started visiting (over 20 years ago). If it’s current state alarms you, I don’t think you would have even walked it back then. So I am counting our blessings although I do hope they can do better.

I have a very different recollection of the walkway from 20 years ago as I have seen this walkway ups and downs from it's initial set up and the last 2-3 years it is not good. I have heard this topic discussed by tourists too many times to be something not being taken care of so I am glad to see something is finally done and I look forward seeing what has been done in a few months...
