Maybe some of you are aware that today is the 50th anniversary of the massacre of students at Tlatelolco's Plaza de las Tres Culturas. All over Mexico and probably at its embassies and consulates around the world Mexican flags will be flying at half staff in remembrance of one of Mexico's most tragic days. The number of deaths, injured and disappeared will probably never be known, and though most of the bloodshed is attributed to the military, the military also suffered injuries and deaths at the hands of unknown snipers. Mexico's then-President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Bolaños and his successor Luis Echeverría Álvarez have been named as the principal intellectual authors of the massacre, but as far as I know except for students, no one was jailed, and the only trials have been in international courts and the court of public opinion. So please be compassionate towards your Mexican friends today. This is a very emotional day of conflictive sentiments for us.

When I walked out to the beach this morning I had a good laugh. One of the drunk vagabundos was looking for an overnight turtle nest to rob eggs from, but there were several people doing their morning exercises so he was trying to act like he was just walking the beach though the path he took following turtle tracks made his intentions all too obvious, and I guess my presence was the gota que derramó el vaso because all of a sudden he pretended he was just another morning jogger and took off running down the beach at full speed towards his buddies by the fishing boats in front of Daniel's Restaurant. The other morning exercisers and I all had a good chuckle at the absurd scene of the barefoot drunk in his ill-fitting shorts making his mad dash back to his compinches. :-P

The waves seemed to have calmed down a bit overnight, tough we had a few temblores in the past 24 hours that have folks a bit anxious. It's that time of year, too.

Another picture postcard perfect sunrise from the pier this morning.

We were sure we felt the jolt of an earthquake last night, but can't find it recorded anywhere. Can you help?

Thank you.
Still no water on La Ropa.

I haven't heard anyone calling in to Zona Libre in the morning to complain about no water at La Ropa, and I've seen no one posting to CAPAZ on Facebook about it either. Dios no oye a quien no le habla.

When I lived at La Ropa if we wanted water we had to go to CAPAZ' offices and speak to a head honcho. Not much has changed in that regard in the past 3 decades.

Not on the list, but La Noria in the flats got water late last night also. Yay! It's going to look like flag day around here(everyone does laundry when the water comes)!
