Playa la Ropa Water Update

by Talley Ho @, Friday, October 05, 2018, 12:49 (68 days ago)

Walking out the gate this morning on the way to town we literally ran into the man delivering the CAPAZ bills. We asked when we would finally get water and he said, "Today."

Paid our bill, asked when we would get water and were directed to the Operations office to ask. The man in the main office there said, "Playa la Ropa? No hay luz." Then he added we should have water after 4 today. In came another man, first man asked him and he said tonight.

So, the saga continues, no water for Playa la Ropa and apparently no electricity at their pumps.

Sounds like you're starting to get the idea, but while you were at the office, if they said the pumps weren't working then you should have asked what time they could send a pipa to your place. Their pipas are free, though we always tip the guys at least a 100 pesos because they take such good care of us.

Is this thread about interruptions in water service due to infrastructure work? Or are the interruptions due to a water shortage? Or something else altogether?

Or is it just plain old fashioned corruption becoming more evident?

All of the above. Where are the Japanese when you need them? They’d’ve had this problem fixed in a week. Month tops.

A water truck. They hold 11,000 liters and cost 450p. Our cistern holds 11,000 liters.

This is the first time we have had to buy one since we took possession of our house in August 2017.

Rob stated the pipas are free. How did they get to be 450 pesos?

Private pipas aren't free. Only the ones from CAPAZ and Conagua if you can get one. Because we have friends we almost always get a CAPAZ pipa. Squeaky wheel and all that. CAPAZ is trying to supply sufficient pipas to colonias where the infrastructure is lacking. Certainly a bold endeavor.

A private pipa is 450p for 11,000 liters. Our water bill that came yesterday that includes sewer, trash and maybe more was a whopping 53p.

Again, first pipa since we moved in August 2017. Small price to pay to live in paradise.

But it didn't do any good.

We just ran out of water and we ordered a pipa. It will be here this afternoon.

They're trying to get water to you. You're on the list again today. Remember lots of your neighbors have big empty cisterns that need filling as well as those swimming pools and lush gardens. All that takes a while to supply.

Hint: buy a large garbage can (or two) and use it for storing that little bit extra water to tide you over should your main water supply runs out. Oftentimes our tambo de agua will get us through 2 or 3 days when water is scarce as well as money for pipas.
