Forgotten Zih

Not a day goes by that we aren't reminded of what we've lost of old Zihuatanejo. Peace. Tranquility. Respect towards elders. One of the things we lost was the huge lagoon that used to run from Dario Galeana right up to the Vicente Guerrero elementary school and the Palacio Municipal. To get to La Ropa you had to cross the lagoon at a place we all called El Vado. If you walked, there was no way to get to La Ropa that you didn't have to get your feet wet. The second footbridge to La Madera coming from downtown is about where El Vado was.

Here's a photo by Cri-Cri of an ox cart carrying bricks towards town in the early 70's. We all moved slower back then.

I believe there is a copy of that photo on the wall in Banana's restaurant.
