Dramatic Example Of Prescription Drug Rip Offs

This article reports that the state of Utah health insurer will actually pay its claimants $500. toward a trip to Mexico if they get certain of their prescription drugs [ FDA approved ] filled there. In one case, the difference is over $4000. for a 28 day supply; so they think it's a no brainer to give their claimants the financial incentive to buy in Mexico.

I think we all agree that drug companies should get a fair return on their R&D; but this is utter BS.

Maybe US health insurers will start paying residents to have their major surgery done in Mexico too. "Medical tourism: how to finance your next trip to Paradise."

All so true. My 90 tablet, 80mg generic Lipitor at Target or at Walmart runs $330. At Canada Pharmacy out of Vancouver, the exact same order runs me $79. Something is wrong with this picture.

Try Red Yeast Rice capsules from a health food store. Cheap and it will drop your cholesterol like a rock.

For comparison, I just filled a prescription for 180 tablets of 20 mg rosuvastatin (a generic of Crestor, competitor of Lipitor's atorvastatin). Total price $45.52 Canadian, (ballpark $34 US), which INCLUDES a $10 dispensing fee! So, the drug cost was $35.52C or $27 US.
Careful, that "Canada Pharmacy" out of Vancouver appears to be gouging.

I'll see you and raise you, Sydney. That total $45.52 Canadian was the price BEFORE my supplemental policy kicked-in. My policy paid 80%, so my out-of-pocket for a 180 day supply was $9.10

My husband was prescribed a drug for Crohns—$625! We got it from Canada for $63!
I read our
Gov pays about $7,000 per person a yr. Europe about $2,000 for their citizens &they have free health care.
The reason is they REGULATE what the drug companies can charge.
That will never happen in the US as long as our Gov. favors the corporations over us average people!

Having lived in Europe for the first 23 years of my life, I enjoyed and support single-payer healthcare for all. However, pharmaceutical companies need to make a profit in order to be able to create new drugs. How do we fix this?

Good public health is in the best interest of the nation and especially its major corporations. Productive R&D can occur under all kinds of scenarios. Cuba is a world leader in groundbreaking health care methods.

It says a lot about a people who put more emphasis on profit than on something as universally important as public health.

As long as there is profit in misery, there will be endless needless misery.

A little profit is acceptable; outright gouging isn't!
