Mexico's Corte Suprema took the initiative to legalize pot for recreational use due to what they perceived as the lack of positive action by the nation's executive and legislative branches in the face of a seriously deteriorating condition affecting the security of the republic. As of this ruling anyone can go to a judge and get an amparo to allow them to grow their own and consume pot for recreational purposes. The stage is set for Mexico's lawmakers to act and finish the legalization process.

Mexico court sets precedent on legal, recreational pot use

I am assuming a long time tourist will not be able to apply for this. Maybe in time? It will be legal one day.

Never assume. The current prohibitionist laws apply to all foreigners so why wouldn't the new precedent established by the court?

Others will understand the political and business connections of the following better than I do.

Vicente Fox, former president of Mexico and former CEO of Coca Cola Mexico, has been appointed as a director of Khiron.

Khiron is a publicly-traded company with its centre of operations in Columbia and a focus on the Latin American cannabis market.

He also recently joined the Board of Directors of High Times Magazine before their planned stock market listing. If you read it in the 70's it's even more relevant now.

Ya, our non-lamented ex-Prime Minister Brian "cash in brown envelopes" Mulroney, a staunch opponent of marijuana while in office, is now lending his name to one of the big new pot producers here in Canada. These guys know which way the wind is blowing, literally.

Reminds me of a statement from Pedro, co-owner of the old La Casa Cafe on Adelita. I'd mentioned to him that we were staying in a place right on the ocean, owned by an ex-mayor of Zihua. He replied "All the ex-mayors of Zihua have a house on the ocean."

Fox Will be happy to find any new source of income, after hearing the news that President-elect Lopez Obrador is planning to cancel pensions paid to all former presidents. Seems Vicente`s November pension cheque may be his last.
