I was thinking the water was warmer this year and like in 2018, it turned colder in March? Just my guess.

But why less fish at market? And less fishermen displaying? Or is it just my imagination?

I was bottom fishing on Thursday and there is a massive current. So fast it is making most spots unfishable.

I disagree with the belief that fish at market are down based solely upon my three 6:30 to 8 a.m visits this past week including today and 15 years of such visits. Are you perhaps getting there too late or being grumpy ?

My wife was there this a.m. early and it seemed her the size of the market was down noticeably. She is local and visits the market intermittently.

We haven't caught anything between here and Manzanillo the last two weeks either. Also, haven't heard nor seen whales there - so I'm guessing they're following the fish further out to sea (not where we fish).

I am guessing the whales did not fight this strong current and went further south.

Hi Midalake, what panga do you fish with? and what can you catch bottom fishing there? I've only done topwater. Also do you recommend a panga down at Barra? we will be staying down there next week.

I don't believe there is any denying that the waters north and south of the entrance to the Bay within 10 km are overfished, it comes and goes, but with no restrictions, it goes more than it comes now.

Non-migratory fish are continually harvested and as a result, the size of the individual fish decreases, but the biomass remains a constant. Subsequently, sports “Bottom fishing” close to Zihua is often unsatisfying.
The water close to Zihua, this February, appears to be warmer than in some other years. This may account for continuing sail fish success and with yellow fin only available 40 or 50 miles out.

U might want to check your records. The current fishing report has the inshore temp. at 81 and offshore at 82 degrees. This is cold for this point in Feb. I doubt Sailfish will be around for much longer. Also there was a Strip Marlin caught late this week.
I predict colder water than normal and earlier and further cooling into March and April.
