Bar recommendations downtown zihua

In years gone by, enjoyed going to Flophouse Bar or Porto di Mare for an early evening beer or margarita. Any recommendations for places with similar vibes in downtown Z during the early evening?

Those are two very different places with different vibes. I still enjoy Zorro if I want to chat and/or watch a game, La Hija del Capitan just to relax with a beer and a chat. But most of the time if I go to a bar in Zihua, it is to watch a band and Barracruda is my favorite for local rock bands. Angustina is where I go to watch latin music when they have bands. Awesome place on the weekends. In Ixtapa, I go to Mangoz and Shakers if I have friends that want to go experience the club scene in Mexico...

Hola. Sorry to see the Flop House go. Great place . One block south on Calle Nicholas Bravo there a bunch of places for an afternoon drink. Zorritos , The Playa bar and The Fishing Hole are all great for an afternoon drink. They are within a block of each other.

We head into town at times, and if it is overwhelming, and it often is, one of us will look a the other and say, "Zorros." Cold Friggin Beer. They open stupid early, which can be the time we want a beer. We've had fabulous things happen there, enough to write another novel about, all positive. The beer is cold, bathrooms clean, service, one way or another, beer available!!!

Don't care about the games, etc. Just a place to get a Cold Friggin Beer anytime. Hope they are a good neighbor.

Zorros is pretty much a gringo bar. If you would rather have a mix of cultures I would suggest some of the others mentions such as the Barracruda.

The bathrooms are clean, boy howdy, every time I've been there the toilet doesn't flush, and it is along way from being clean. But the beer is friggin cold.

I double-clutched at "the bathrooms are clean" too. Made me wonder if the poster'd mixed it up with someplace else. It always puzzled me that the Canadian owner wouldn't be a tad more fastidious. Maybe he was looking for a more "traditional" ambience?

It's much cleaner this year & the staff has been really on top of it, but sometimes they can't get city water when they pump it

We really miss Carlos and the old Flophouse. He was a great host. Never have found anything like it in Zihua since Carlos and Joa moved. Wish I could offer a similar suggestion! Also miss Porto di Mare.
Maybe try Barracuda?

Our favourite is Eloina's on Augustin Ramirez just down the way from Don Memo's and across from the Hotel Zihuatanejo Centro. We, too, miss Carlos and The Flophouse. Eloina used to work at Pacalo's.

Also next to Coconuts is Ketomo, or Brendas as we call it. She used to work at Zorritos up on the corner from Zorros. She's a sweetie but now Lucy is running Zorritos now & awesome too!!

Tried many of the suggested bars. The one we liked the most and felt something like Flophouse was Ketomo near Coconut’s Drinks cheap, bartender (Brenda) is charming and friendly. Thanks for recommendation.

Avoid Bar E60 across from the outdoor bar Fishing Hole, maybe even the Fishing Hole, where three people were shot two killed a couple of weeks ago. I'll leave it to your imagination why it's not shut down by authorities. The day after the shootings the Red Cross ambulance driver who was on the scene was murdered. As your Mother told you nothing good happens after midnight.

Hola. The Fishing Hole had nothing to do with the killings on Saturday night about 10:30 pm a couple of weeks ago. The shootings were on the street and originated in another bar. To my knowledge, all the recent shootings in Centro lately, except for maybe two, were in the daytime.
The Fishing Hole is a very popular expat bar and has always had a good reputation.

The "ambulance driver" you refer to didn't drive the ambulance the night before but took one of the victims to the hospital in his own private vehicle. He was cowardly murdered the next day in the pharmacy where he worked near Clínica Maciel. He was a Cruz Roja volunteer who was also a doctor and quite well-known and loved. I knew him since he was a little kid. There may or may not be a connection with the previous night's shooting and it is irresponsible to say there was at this point, but his killer better be hiding deep in a dark hole somewhere because pretty much the entire town is out to get him, and he better hope the police catch him first because the good citizens will carry out traditional justice with no trial if they catch him first.

I don't condone violence but in this case I kind of agree with you Rob. I heard this story as well and it makes me very sad. I didn't know the guy who was killed but it seems clear that his murderer deserves whatever bad karma comes their way.
