Status of tourism?

Just got back from zih and ix
Stayed on Playa Linda and on La ropa.

Last time I was there was almost 10 years ago.
So much has changed!

1.much more hotel capacity
I remember visiting in 2005 around jan
And not being able to get a room.

2. Pollution is more significant now
I saw smog for a few days and could
Smell sewage from the water on La ropa
During mornings and evenings when I
Presume raw sewage is released into the bay

3. People seem angrier. Every hotel or
Restaurant or cabby seemed to want to
Poke their hand in our faces like an
Aggressive jab!!

4.that said still lots of green space in
Zih and still pretty and development
Seems to have stopped

5. With the epic rise of tourism in so
Many other places in Mexico and
Carribb, I wonder if zh and ix will
Reach the heights of 2003 to 2008 again

6. We won't be coming back again maybe ever
We have found our spot in PV... Very safe
And so many different towns. Zih is awesome
But not for us....too much anger and
Entitlement there.

Sorry if I offend. My honest opinion. Out
Of 5 trips over 20 years this is the only
Time I looked forward to leaving.

To those who saw zih is safe as it was
20 years ago or safer or as safe as PV.

Def not true. PV I will rent a car and
Drive up and down Rte 200. Would
Never rent a car in zih. I grew
Up in bad area and have a 6th sense
About danger. Biggest problem
For zih is lack of anchoring city
While acap has mex city and PV has
Guadalajara, zih maybe has morelia.

There is no middle class making it solid
And safe like PV.

In zih disparities be poor and haves are
Dramatic.... Therefore the rage and anger

This merits a response, but uncharacteristically I will mostly sit on my fingers and let those more knowledgeable respond. For what its worth, at least living in a colonia, I see no more danger now than I did in 2010 when I decided to build. In fact I see more people improving their homes and taking an interest in their community. I do not worry about walking around in my neighborhood after dark as I would in any US city .

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience this time around. Good to hear you have a happy place in PV.

I felt this anxiety in beginning 2008 in zihuatanejo. So stopped going there as often I used to go to zih every opportunity I had , then i started to travel to different parts of the world where I felt safer, even started to frequent Colombia , where my biggest worry was if I picked the right restaurante that evening. To quote my friend trump - so sad.

What’s “sad” is seeing people who dislike Zihuatanejo so much they follow my Message Board and post about all that’s “wrong” here without actually doing anything more than projecting themselves. Zihuatanejo isn’t for everyone, thank goodness, and I keep telling my friends and neighbors that we shouldn’t even try to please everyone. So if you love Vallarta more power to ya, but please don’t pretend to tell me how cold, bad and polluted Zihuatanejo is when, while it is many things and certainly not perfect, it’s quite far from being anything either of you describe which seem more to do with your imaginations, IMHO.

Saludos.

Was in Zihua in Feb for the 25th time! After visiting many places in Mexico, we have always found it to be the most charming, friendliest of all!!!

After visiting a large part of Mexico over 30 years and working in several parts of it, I do find Zihua to be the best in the more touristy places in Mexico. It has kept a lot of it's charm of small fisherman's village even if things have changed compared to 20-30 years ago as it does everywhere.I find people being genuinely friendly in Zihua and that is different for places that have been dealing with a large amount of tourism for years. Far from perfect and it sure has several serious issues but I love the place still.

I must be blind, stupid or both. Been going to the area for years and the only noticeable unpleasant change I've seen are some land development, Sam's club and Oxxo. But if you're not coming back, that's ok with me. One less person in line when we go to Papa Loca's.

We’ve been many places in Mexico. Zihua is the only one that draws us back.

I`m not offended, each to their own. But information you are complaining about like polllution, PV is not a great candidate. https://www.numbeo.com/pollution/in/Puerto-Vallarta
